Booking Through Thursday: Friendship

Buy a Friend a Book Week is October 1-7 (as well as the first weeks of January, April, and July). During this week, you’re encouraged to buy a friend a book for no good reason. Not for their birthday, not because it’s a holiday, not to cheer them up–just because it’s a book.

What book would you choose to give to a friend and why?

I mostly give books to friends or family as presents for gift giving holidays, but every now and then I give a book away at random. Maybe it is a book a friend took an extra special notice in while I was reading it or maybe the book had that person's name all over the cover when I discovered it in the store. I do my best to match the book with the reader depending on taste and preference.

As it turns out, I discovered a couple of duplicate books among my TBR collection. A rare occurence, but unavoidable now and then given the size of my TBR collection, I suppose. I would like to find homes for them, and what better time to do so with Buy a Friend a Book Week just around the corner? I think a drawing is in order!

The Books:
The Fencing Master by Arturo Perez-Reverte
Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult

If you are interested in one of the books listed above, leave me a comment specifying which of the two books you might like to add to your TBR collection. You are welcome to put your name in for one or both.* October 4th will be the close off date and a name will be drawn on the 5th.

*Overseas entries welcome.

  1. Hey Wendy! I'm back!!! :D

Like you, I have some duplicate books amongst my TBR pile and I think this is a great opportunity to give them away! Also, it's a bonus to me to hear someone telling me that he/she enjoys the book especially when he/she has never read that author before. :)

I'd like to win a copy of Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult, please put my name for the draw. Thanks for sharing, Wendy! :D

  3. If you're sure you don't mind shipping overseas, please put my name in the draw for The Fencing Master. I've yet to read anything by Arturo Perez-Reverte but his name's been floating around on my reading radar for a while.

  4. Hi Wendy! Coincidentally, I'm thinking of a book giveaway too. Will be doing that on Oct 1 and be giving away two books as well.

I'd like to be entered in the draw for Jodi Picoult's Perfect Match. That's very nice of you to be doing that. :)

    PS: Welcome back, Melody!!

  5. I have eliminated my duplicates now. When I catalogued all of my books I put them aside to give to friends for birthdays etc and am selling the last few copies on Amazon for now. If they don't all go I will probably give them away or exchange them online with someone. I tend to buy people books when I think they will enjoy them randomly anyway, especially my husband.

  6. Count me in for "Perfect Match" by Jodi Picoult. I live in India though!

I had a lot of duplicates for children's books. I gave those away in thelast BAFAB!

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  12. Melody - Welcome back! LOL Yes, I agree, it is definitely a plus when someone enjoys a book given to them that the sender hasn't yet read. :-) I added you to the drawing for Perfect Match.

BookGal - You're in for Perfect Match! I figured this might be the only way the books leave my house. Haha

Tanabata - I don't mind at all. The books are both trade paperbacks and so shipping won't be too horrible. :-) I've got you down for The Fencing Master. My husband actually had a copy of this book and I hadn't realized it when I got my copy--hence the duplicate.

Alice - I'll watch for your book giveaway. Any chance to win a book! I've got you down for Perfect Match. :-)

Rhinoa - These are my last two unintentional duplicates. The rest are all ones we've collected on purpose. I like to find books for my husband to read too. He is a bit picky with his taste though and so it can be a challenge. Usually though, the books I get him are ones I want to read too so either way, it works out. :-)

Gautami - I've added you in for Perfect Match. BAFAB is a great way to share our duplicates, isn't it?

Niki - I've got you down for both. :-) I enjoy giving books away. I wish I could buy you all copies of these books so no one loses out, but I think my husband might put his foot down about that idea. LOL

Marsha - Doesn't it? I am looking forward to reading The Fencing Master. I've got you down for that one. :-)

Stephanie - Of course it's okay! You're in for Perfect Match.

Elizabeth - It'll give me room for two more books, anyway. :-) I've got you down for Perfect Match.

Kristy - You must try a Picoult book. I've added you in for Perfect Match. :-)

  13. LF -

Shoot. Add my name to the list. Since I've got a Picoult in my TBR stack already, I'll take a chance at the other.

  14. CJ- I added your name in for Picout. Which book do you have by her? I've read four of her books and enjoyed each of them, although I haven't yet read Perfect Match.
