Booking Through Thursday on Friday: Writing Challenge & Frinday Fill Ins

  • Pick up the nearest book. (I’m sure you must have one nearby.)
  • Turn to page 123.
  • What is the first sentence on the page?
  • The last sentence on the page?
  • Now . . . connect them together….
(And no, you may not transcribe the entire page of the book–that’s cheating!)
Two nights before my father died, I dreamed that I was out at the bullpen with him. God it was beautiful!
- Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel

Yeah, so I did not add anything extra to connect the two sentences together, but don't you think it works perfectly just like that? I do anyway.

1. I love springtime in the fall! (What can I say? It's the first thing that came to mind.)
2. A Banana is a food I love to eat for breakfast. (I often don't eat much else.)
3. It seems I'm always searching for my glasses. (I rarely put them in the same place each time. It's becoming a family tradition now for my husband and I to search the house for my glasses before we go out.)
4. Reading in bed is a great way to end the day. (You must try it if you haven't already.)
5. I think I need a hair cut. (But it will have to wait until the 18th.)
6. Ice cold Soda is what I've been craving lately. (I can't drink it anymore, and so it especially sucks!)
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a warm meal followed by a good book; tomorrow my plans include making my husband go over the author panel schedule for the L.A. Times Festival of Books to see if there are any he does not want to miss this year; and Sunday, I want to enjoying the company of my animals and husband--and a good book!

  1. I've to admit the two sentences for the BTT linked pretty well. ;)

And I agree reading in bed is definitely a great way to end the day! Hope you've a great weekend ahead.

  2. I need a haircut too but I'm lucky I get mine tonight! Happy Friday!

  3. #4 yes!
I could do with a haircut too. Not going to happen any time soon though.

  4. Haha. I said exactly the same for #4! :)
Hope you have a good weekend.

  5. I can never find my glasses either!

  6. Your BTT really does work perfectly as is. And I love bananas too!

  7. I thought those two sentences connected very well also. I love reading in bed at night! I used to in the morning but that was in the B.P.(Before Pets) days!

  9. My #3 and #4 answers were the same as yours, and I agree that your BTT worked just fine as is.

Let me know when you've gone over the Festival of Books schedule - we are definitely going, but haven't decided when yet, so it would be nice to know when you plan to be there! :-)

  10. Hmmm...

Wallender took a 100-kronre note out of his wallet and gave it to Svedberg.
"The only thing we can hope for is that the people threatened are aware of it."

    sort of works!

I'm with you on reading in bed and needing a haircut. Enjoy the book festival!

  11. Why is reading in bed so great? Does it bring back memories of being read to as a child, do you think? Thanks for playing :-)

  12. It's been my experience that a blushing bride usually waits until after the honeymoon's over before hiring a gumshow to check up on her husband's whereabouts. She'd charged noisily up the outside stairs, shoving the door open so hard the glass rattled.

  13. It is perfect just like that. I really want to read Fun Home, and I look forward to your review of it.

    Have a lovely weekend!

  14. Wendy, I can't take it anymore! My curiosity is killing me. Why can't you drink soda anymore? (if it's too personal just ignore this!) LOVE your habit of turning a book over when it has a face on it. I think just by reading that you do that, that I have just caught that quirk somehow..

  15. Melody - It's kind of cheating, isn't it? LOL I hope you have a good weekend too!

Juli - How did your visit to the salon go? I hope you are happy with your new hair cut!

Julie - I keep putting the hair cut off, but I really should get one. :-S

Tanabata - Reading in bed is a must for me! I hope you have a good weekend too!

Sandy - I'm glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes I search all over the house for them only to realize they are on my face. So embarrassing!

    Chris - Thanks!

  16. Heather - I thought so too! A person can never have enough bananas in their diet. :-)

Jaimie - Thank you! I'm usually in such a rush to get out the door in the mornings that reading then is impossible. Sometimes I can fit it in on the weekends if the animals get me up extra early and hubby is still sleeping. Why is it that he can sleep through their morning wake-up routine, but I can't? It's not fair! Haha

Alison - Reading in bed is a must! I hope you have a good weekend too.

Florinda - It's good to know I'm in good company!

I made hubby glance over the schedule tonight, but we'll probably give it a closer look tomorrow. We usually end up going both days because I can't help myself.

Clea - Thank you for playing! I am looking forward to the book festival. It's the one event each year I won't miss. This time though I think I may have competition in choosing panel discussions. Usually my husband lets me do the planning, but this time he's seen a few he would like to attend.

Janet - I like to read in bed before bedtime because it gives my brain a chance to focus and relax. Otherwise, I have a gazillion thoughts from the day running around in my mind and I have trouble drifting off to sleep. I also get a better night's sleep if I read before bed as a result.

  17. Jen - I love it! I can't wait to read that anthology.

Nymeth - You'd think I'd have it read by now considering it's not that long--at least not text wise.

I hope you have a good weekend too!

Jody - I had to give up soda for health reasons.

I was reading about reading quirks recently and decided I should 'fess up to that one. :-)

  18. Those two line fit. Mine do too, I think!. However, I went back and wrote a stupid middle!

    Here is my BTT post!

  19. Hello! Those two sentences work really well. I got...

'Struck me as a little snot, if only you could arrest people for that.'

'You don't know much about tree trimming do you?'

    Excellent....made me laugh!!

The airshow sounds good. I love airshows and any sky watching is good. Have a great weekend!

  20. Yea! I was able to post today, for some reason yesterday it wouldn't,

    Have a nice week-end Wendy :)

  21. I'm not a banana fan, I still only ever eat them with peanut butter (although I do like fried bananas, but not for breakfast!)

LOL I had the same answer for number 4. And, I also need a hair cut...I have been trying to find time since Maya was born...almost 5 months ago! It would help if I had someone to watch her!

    Have a great weekend!

  22. Gautami - I probably should do that too, but I probably won't. :-)

Dancin' Fool - That is funny!

Sometimes hubby and I just have to step outside to watch the airplanes from the airshow as they make their circle back to the little airport in town. I have a thing for airplanes, and so I can't resist trying to spot a plane when I hear one above.

Sylvie - I did get your e-mail response even if you couldn't post here yesterday and I appreciate that very much!

I hope you have a good weekend too.

Alisia - I love peanut butter, but I've never been able to eat it with my bananas, I'm afraid.

I hope you are able to get your haircut one of these days! Have a good weekend too!

  23. LOL - I sooo have the same problem with my glasses!! I don't have to wear them all the time, so I take them off often and then have a heck of a time finding them most times.

    ReplyDelete
  24. April - Exactly! I try not to wear my glasses in the house because the doctor advised against it, but that means resting them somewhere and then forgetting where I decided that resting place should be. I have a little glasses tray for them, but it seems to have filled up with other things and I rarely think to use it for its intended purpose.
