Friday: Fill Ins and A Day for Feasting

1. Two of my favorite ingredients in a drink are lemon and ice! Ice water with a touch of lemon is perfect on a warm spring day like this. Or maybe even a tall glass of lemonade . . . Yum!
2. The things I encounter at work often amaze me. And not necessarily in a good way.
3. You can keep doing that (throwing the ball) forever, the dog is obsessed with playing fetch.
4. Hot water and cocoa powder, mix it all together and voila! You have hot chocolate!
5. If I had a yard with a garden, I would love to grow anything at all that might live longer than a week or so. I have a brown thumb, remember?
6. Steaming hot biscuits are best au naturel.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching the third episode of The Dresden Files, tomorrow my plans include possibly taking in a movie and Sunday, I want to do a little reading!

Appetizer

What was your favorite cartoon when you were a child?

Saturday morning cartoons were always a favorite of mine. My brother and I would wake up early and fight over which cartoons we would watch (He always wanted to watch the Smurfs). We watched a few cartoons during the week, but not many. Sundays were slim pickings for cartoons, but we always managed to find one or two to keep us occupied. My favorite cartoons included Mighty Mouse (I had such a crush on him!), Tom and Jerry, Tweety and Sylvester, Woody Woodpecker, Richie Rich, the Super Friends, and the Flintstones. My eighth grade year, my friend and I were big fans of She-Ra. We used to watch it every morning before catching the bus to go to school. And to think I couldn't think of any when I first came across this question!

Soup

Pretend you are about to get a new pet. Which animal would you pick, and what would you name it?

My first inclination would be to add a new cat to the family, but I do think a dog might be better able to adjust to my motley crew. A lot would depend on the animal's temperament and how he or she gets along with my other animals. My husband and I often joke that we follow the (unintentional) tradition of naming our pets after Buffy the Vampire Slayer's leading men. We still need a Spike and an Angel.

Salad

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?

As long as I have something to wear, I enjoy getting dressed up now and then. A lot would depend on what I was getting dressed up for. If it's dinner, I would take casual over fancy any day. If it's a wedding or some other important event, then I'll dress up happily. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably say my enjoyment for getting dressed up is about a 6.

Main Course

What kind of music do you listen to while you drive?

I am a frequent radio channel changer, especially when I am alone in the car (I don't usually flip channels when in the company of others). I go between a couple of country music stations and three rock/pop stations that play a variety of music from oldies on up to more contemporary music.

Dessert

When was the last time you bought a clock? And in which room did you put it?

I love timepieces. I collect miniature clocks, as a matter of fact. Most are gifts I have received over the years. It has been awhile since I actually bought a clock for myself, and so I could not tell you when that was. I bought a watch last year around this time, I know. I really like watches too.

  1. Isn't it amazing how when we were young, cartoons were such a treat because they only ran pretty much on Sat. mornings?! I think it was TBS or something like that that had the Flintstones on in the afternoon. I was always so excited to watch that and then of course the Addams Family, lol. I remember I loved Captain Cave Man and Rocky and Bullwinkle on Sat. mornings too! Now with all the 24 hour cartoon channels they have, kids just get to watch them whenever they like.

  2. These are fun!

Saturday mornings now, the cartoons don't seem nearly as intersting to me. And there aren't as many either.

    (I don't have cable, I'm sure that makes a difference ...)

  3. I am drinking a tall glass of lemonade at this moment with my lunch,

Again have a nice week-end Wendy

  4. FFI #5 - it'd be wonderful to have those green thumbs once in a while. If you find out where they can be found, let me know. :)

Mighty Mouse - the name Hiram is ringing through my skull. Same show?

  5. I remember watching Saturday morning cartoons with my bowl of cereal on one of those metal T.V trays. Back then it was Josie and the Pussycats,Scooby Doo, and Land of the Lost that were the biggies. That sure dates me. My kids loved watching Smurfs so one day my husband dyed the mashed potatoes blue and said it was mashed Smurf. The kids loved that! We all have a pretty strange sense of humor over here!

  6. No argument about #2!

Is your dog a retriever mix? Mine's a shepherd mix and doesn't enjoy those games, but my "ex-dog" is a retriever mix and lives to run after tennis balls.

Ooh, biscuits! Now I'm hungry again. :-)

I'm a frequent station changer in the car too; I'm like a guy with the TV remote.

    Have a great weekend, Wendy!

  8. Amazing that you can remember what cartoons were on Saturdays and what were on Sundays. I can't recall the names even now. I like Smurfs too.

    Feast 189

  11. Saturday Morning Cartoons was my most favorite past times when I was kid. I remember getting excited to waking every Saturday morning, and watch The Smurfs. And then just "la la la la" the song. They were my friends *G*...all the cartoons you've listed, I remember them too *G*. Even Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, The Little..etc.

I've forgotten about Richie Rich! Geez, you're bringing out the old memories of me LOL..but thanks for taking me to memories lane :)

  12. Mmmm...lemonade. I love lemonade, too. That reminds that I haven't had any in quite some time. Must remedy that.

Oh, and my dog is soooo addicted to playing fetch that he'll bark and bark and bark in an astonishingly piercing manner until you throw his ball for him. It's rather dreadful. Silence is really at a premium around here...

  13. April - I loved the Addams Family! I used to watch that all the time. Saturday mornings were always fun in my house growing up. :-) You're right, today you can find cartoons on 24/7.

Bridget - The cartoons today don't interest me like they did when I was younger either. But then, I don't really watch much TV beyond a handful of TV shows.

Sylvie - A tall glass of lemonade sounds so good right now! I hope you have a good weekend too.

Julie - I sure wish I had a green thumb. I'll keep a look out for the both of us!

I don't remember Hiram, but I looked him up. He was a Super Fly who slept in a matchbox. That sounds familiar!

Jaimie - We would eat breakfast and watch cartoons too. Oh, how could I forget Josie and the Pusseycats? I loved that show! I also watched Land of the Lost.

I love the blue potato story! How funny! Thanks for sharing.

Florinda - No, my dog is a Basenji/Jack Russell mix. When his ball is out, he wants to play fetch nonstop. That dog never wants to rest!

I was thinking that too--that I'm like a guy with a TV remote. Haha

I hope you have a great weekend too.

Peppylady - Thank you so much for stopping by! Yes, our favorite childhood shows definitely do age us, don't they?

Serena - I don't know why I remember stuff like that. I am a product of the pop culture. :-) Thanks for stopping by!

Marie - LOL It does take a bit of the fun of anticipation out of it, doesn't it?

Deb - I love biscuits, especially when they are warm. Thank you for visiting and I hope you have a good weekend too!

Julia - It was definitely my favorite part of the weekend. :-) I really liked The Littles too. I found the intro on YouTube last night and was playing it for my husband. He thought I was crazy. Haha

Megan - I need to make some lemonade, I think. Since I've given up caffeine, I've been drinking lemonade when we are out and about if I don't feel like drinking plain water. I'm discovering quickly who has good lemonade and who doesn't.

Oh! I feel for you with your dog's tactics to get you to play fetch. My dog isn't quite so annoying about it, but if you try and ignore him, he'll keep running over to you, pick up the ball and drop it at your feet again and again, sometimes bouncing it off your foot until you take notice and play.

  14. What a fun read!

So, not being a Buffy fan, I have no idea what you've named your cats.

  15. Lemonade very nice, Wendy. Hehe.

Love your feast! I remembered Mighty Mouse, such a good evil-fighting mouse. And all the others you've mentioned. :)

  16. Nancy - We actually didn't intend that our animals would be named after Buffy characters--it was just something we noticed after the fact and it's been a running joke between us ever since. My poor cat shares a name with a not so good character from Buffy's romantic life, unfortunately: Parker (named so because he was a stray living in the parking lot of the courthouse where I used to work). My dog's name is Riley, which is a name I thought of out of the blue in the middle of the night a couple of night's before we were able to bring him home. We just liked the name. It just so happens that one of Buffy's more serious boyfriends had the same name.

Alice - Mighty Mouse was definitely one of my favorites. :-)

  17. Some lemonade sounds nice, as do the steaming hot biscuits. I think I'm hungry. :P
That's funny about inintentionally naming your pets after Buffy characters. I've never seen the show though so I'm glad Nancy asked.

  18. Tanabata - I am in the mood for biscuits now, I think! Haha

  19. Glad you decided to play FF, Wendy! Enjoyed reading your answers. :)

Oh yes, I've forgotten to mention Mighty Mouse... and I love watching Tom & Jerry too. :D

    Hope you've a great weekend.

  20. Melody - I've enjoyed reading yours and Alice's responses that I decided I should give FF a try too.

What is it about cartoon mice? They're so cute! :-)

  21. Did you end up seeing a movie? If so, which one? I ... think I want to see Ironman LOL. Don't laugh!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi, Janet! Iron Man is exactly what we ended up seeing! If you do go this weekend, be sure and stay through the credits. We didn't and missed out on the last scene.
