1. If I could be a fly on the wall I would stay up high where I am out of reach.
2. Jealousy is dangerous in the extreme.
3. When I see a shooting star my wish would be that people would get along and respect one another.
4. I'd rather be reading than shoe shopping any day!
5. Certain songs when I hear them make me wanna sing along. (Okay, so most songs.)
6. If time were in a bottle there wouldn't be much of it.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to cuddling with my husband and animals, tomorrow my plans include seeing Batman: The Dark Knight and Sunday, I want to see Mamma Mia!
Do you buy books while on vacation/holiday? Do you have favorite bookstores that you only get to visit while away on a trip? What/Where are they?
Much depends on whether I am traveling someplace new or going to visit the folks. If I am going to visit my in-laws or my own parents then a trip to the bookstore is not a top priority. I often come home with books, but they are usually ones that the parents have loaned or given us.
However, when going on an actual vacation that doesn't include visiting family--when it's just my husband and I--then, yes, bookstore stops are a must. In most of these cases, the bookstores are completely new to me, and so I cannot claim a favorite. I do like to stop in nearly every bookstore I come across if I get the chance. I feel obligated to make at least a small purchase to show my support to the local community. I mean, they are putting up with having me in town after all.
My husband is actually worse than I am on this subject. Whereas I tend to go with the flow, he comes prepared with a list of area comic book stores that we must check out. I do not think he's yet made his list for Hawaii, but I imagine this time will not be any different.

I trade individual books now and then. Sometimes I give books away. I loan books to family and friends and borrow others in return. As for participating in an actual book swapping group or community, no, I never have nor am I interested in doing so at this time.
Tuesday's topic: Book-swapping. Do you do it? What site(s) do you use? How did you find out about them? What do you think of them? Do you use LT's book-swapping column feature for information on what to swap? Do you participate in any of the LT communities that discuss bookswapping, like the Bookmooch group for example?
I can't wait to hear what you have to say about The Dark Knight!!!
ReplyDeleteI visit all the bookstores and yarnshops when I'm vacationing. Doesn't everyone?
ReplyDeleteMamma Mia! I can't wait to see this.
Aw, darn. I don't have a single one of those 1 or no one else books you listed either.
We're seeing The Dark Knight on Sunday. Hubby is seeing Hellboy II tomorrow, on his own :-) - I'm going to snatch some writing time.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't choose between reading and shoe shopping - I enjoy both!
Enjoy your weekend, Wendy!
I'd much rather be reading than shoe shopping too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthday wishes for my Dad. I feel lucky to have him around still as he had prostate cancer a few years ago. He beat it though. Tough old bugger :)
Hope your weekend is a good one.
Julie - I am very much looking forward to seeing it. So far the reviews have been very positive.
ReplyDeleteCarrie K - I love going to the local authors' table when visiting a bookstore during my travels.
I hope I don't embarrass myself and start singing during the movie.
Florinda - I hope you enjoy the movie! And that your husband likes Hellboy II. It was a fun movie. Not the best, but still enjoyable. Batman will make it look pale in comparison, I have a feeling. LOL
Can you go shoe shopping for me then? I have such a hard time finding a pair I like.
Julie - Florinda can go shoe shopping for you too. :-) Your dad has been through a lot. I am glad he was able to beat the cancer.
I'm looking forward to seeing Mamma Mia, too. Looks fun. I've been looking forward to it for a while. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteSusan L.
Online bookswapping is not much common in India. And mailing outside of it unthinkable for me at the moment becos of the cost.I can buy 2-3 books with that money.
ReplyDelete:D
Here is my BTT post
Did you see Batman? What did you think? I'm going to see Mama Mia too, I need something fun after The Dark Knight! :-)
ReplyDeleteGautami - I can imagine it would be difficult, especially with the postal rates to ship overseas. I hope that changes someday, but I suppose that's wishful thinking, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMarie - I did see The Dark Knight. I loved it! LOVED it! I want to see it again. We actually followed it up and watched Mamma Mia after lunch. It was a fun movie. Several people were mouthing the words, I noticed. :-) I am glad though that I didn't listen to the soundtrack from the stage show right before hand. There were songs left out, and I would have been more aware of that otherwise.
I've saw the musical of Mamma Mia in London. I didn't know they were making it into a movie. The Dark Knight seems to have great reviews so far.
ReplyDeleteI don't necessarily love shoe shopping but do think it's better than clothes shopping. Reading is better than either though, of course! :)
I'm with you, Wendy. I'd rather be reading than doing shoe shopping! I'm just not interested unless my shoes fall apart and I have no choice...
ReplyDeleteI am planning on watching the new Batman movie soon. :)
Oh btw, I have an award waiting for you... :D
ReplyDeleteOohh...what a great movie weekend, you're catching both openers, Dark Knight and Mamma Mia. What did you think of them?
ReplyDeleteI like your #3. Mine was a bit more, um, materialistic. :)
Don't keep us waiting -- what did you think of Batman! :)
ReplyDeleteI want to see it but I really cannot stand crowded movie theaters. It never fails I get stuck next to people that are noisy so we are waiting until a couple of more weeks I guess.
Oh, I want to watch The Dark Knight! My husband and I were talking about this the other day and maybe we might catch it this week, we shall see... :)
ReplyDeleteI'd rather be reading than shoe shopping too! I hope you've a great weekend, Wendy!
I love to sing along to musics too, whenever someone isn't telling me to shut up hehe. Please let me know how you like "Mama Mia" and "Dark Knight", those are the two movies am looking forward to see this weekend.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your answers for Friday Fill In, Booking Through Thursday and Tuesday Thingers. I hope you and husband have a good day!
How was Mama Mia?? I reeeeally want to see it!
ReplyDeleteI'm on BookCrossing.com and someone offered to "book swap" with me... and she lived waaay far away. For me, I wasn't on BookCrossing to swap so I said no. But I guess some people enjoy it.
Great answers for friday fill-ins. I am waaaay behind on my blog reading. It sounds as though you had a wonderful and fun weekend, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I am way behind in responding to comments. Forgive me please! It's been such a busy week.
ReplyDeleteNat - I really like the musical of Mamma Mia! Hubby and I saw it in Las Vegas a few years ago. The movie stars Meryl Streep. It was a fun movie, although the singing wasn't the best. Oh well. Can't have everything, I suppose. Yes, reading is much preferrable to any kind of shopping. :-)
Alice - Anything is better than shoe shopping! I wish they made comfortable shoes for work. :-S Thank you for the award! That's so sweet of you!
Alisia - I enjoyed them both, especially The Dark Knight. I really want to see it again. You are probably more likely to get your wish than I am. It's probably wiser to be more realistic. ;-)
Iliana - It was awesome! I really enjoyed it. We went to an early showing and so it wasn't overly crowded, although more crowded than the theater usually is at that hour for any other movie. I'm not especially fond of crowds either, but there are some movies I just can't wait to see. I can be impatient sometimes.
Melody - Wasn't Dark Knight good? You've seen it now, of course. I can't believe how behind I got in responding! Someone's going to take away my blogger license.
Julia - I hope you enjoyed the movies!
Monica - I enjoyed it. It's getting mixed reviews, I've noticed, which is to be expected. I wasn't too impressed with the overall singing, but it was still a fun movie. Have you had a chance to see it yet?
April - I'm behind too, April! You are definitely not alone.
I'm finally catching up on my blog reading.
ReplyDeleteMy parents live in Sidney, British Columbia, near Victoria, which advertises itself as a booktown, and has several bookstores I love to visit. The main one is Tanners, which is open every day early and late and has a separate map section and a very thorough magazine section. I always end up dropping some cash there.
A lot of the bookstores are used ones and you can find some good deals.
Shonna - Tanners sounds like a wonderful bookstore!
