As you may know, I will be sitting on the voting panel for the 2011 Independent Literary Awards in the mystery category. I am thrilled beyond belief to be a part of the awards. While I am unable to nominate books for the awards myself, it shouldn't stop you!
I was even more excited when news came that all readers are now able to nominate books for the Indie Lit Awards this year, not just bloggers (the exception being that you cannot nominate a book that you authored, published, edited or were paid to publicize). It's about time, wouldn't you say? Be sure to keep track of those 2011 titles and nominate your favorites come this September through December for an Indie Lit Award! As a reader, be sure the books you love get recognized.
I confess I have not been able to keep up with the crime fiction titles published so far this year as so many of the other panelists have been doing in their various categories. It isn't for lack of desire--those who follow my blog know my attention lately has been elsewhere. As a result, I am counting on many of my fellow mystery lovers out there to keep me apprised of what I may be missing. If you do read a mystery you think is a must read or worthy of the Indie Lit Award in the mystery category, do let me know. You can either e-mail me at literaryfeline@gmail.com or leave me a comment. Let's see what kind of list we can come up with!
In addition, for those of you interested in receiving books for review, you might want to stop by the Indie Lit Awards website. There is a new feature that gives publishers a way to find bloggers who would like to review books published in 2011. Wallace, the Indie Lit Awards Founder, writes:

Are you a blogger who is willing to review books in your favorite genre that are newly released in 2011? Are you a publisher, publicist, or author who is looking to get your newly released (in 2011) book read and reviewed on blogs? Great (on both accounts)! We’ve added Mr. Linky lists to each genre page to enable book bloggers to add their blogs to the list of bloggers who are willing to accept books published in 2011 and review them. Publishers, publicists, and authors: we’ve tried to make it easier for you to find bloggers who review books in your specific categories. Our goals are the same as yours — get books published in 2011 seen by readers! We want as many nominations this year as we can get, and the only way to do that is if readers know which books are out. Sometimes that can be difficult, especially if a blogger is new or if they just don’t have established relationships with literary industry people. So, let’s rectify that and get great books into blogging hands! Please visit our genre pages today to either add your blog, or visit blogs in particular genres.Sounds like something worth checking out, if you ask me!

Great stuff, Wendy! Thanks for highlighting this. I hope to be lucky and get some books for review. I haven't been buying books for the longest time. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great program. If I wasn't already inundated with reviews and trying to catch up, I'd join in too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for highlighting this! Have joined in.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to be part of the panel this year too (bio/memoirs)!
ReplyDeleteI've also joined as I review a variety of genres. Thanks for the tips and reminder.
