Happy December! December is one of the busiest months of the year for many of us, me included. This next week is full of meetings and training and a Girl Scouts meeting.
I am both happy and sad to see November leave. It felt like the longest month ever in some ways, and yet it also seemed to go by so fast. How is that possible? I only managed to read four books all month. Considering that is relatively normal for November for me, I suppose that isn't bad. I enjoyed all the books I read/listened to.
My November Reads:
The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum by Kirsten Weiss
Descent by Tim Johnston
Lazaretto by Diane McKinney-Whetstone
The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
What was your favorite book read in November?
My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis
The Girl From the Savoy by Hazel Gaynor
The Murder Game by Julie Apple (aka Catherine McKenzie)
What I Am Reading: It was not a good reading week. I barely made any progress in any of the books I am reading. It was a crazy busy week. I am a little farther in The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist and Lisa See's The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. We won't even talk about the book I am reading for work. I think that is part of what's stumping me. It's on the boring side and so I am reading less because I know I should be reading that one. Homework sucks.
What I Am Listening To: I am making good progress on Here Comes the Sun by Nicole Dennis-Benn. I had read several reviews when first considering starting the book that mentioned disappointment in how depressing the book is.Admittedly, it is pretty sad in terms of the subject matter. It's beautifully written though, and I am well invested in the lives of the characters.
What I Am Watching: My Little Pony. Again and again and again.
What I Am Watching: My Little Pony. Again and again and again.
What's Going On Off the Blog: I met with Mouse's teacher this past week to discuss Mouse's progress in school for the first trimester. She's evidently won over the heart of the teacher--and she made the honor roll! Mouse's tendency to chat with her classmates when she is supposed to be working came up, of course.
This weekend we attended a Girl Scouts' Winter Crafts Event, and Mouse made several different Holiday related art projects. We had a lot of fun. We stopped in at the library on the way home and spent some time reading together.
Most of my Christmas shopping is done and the presents wrapped. Whew. I will be glad when it is all done. We put up the Holiday lights this weekend, all the while Mouse performed for us, dancing and singing to Equestria Girls songs.
What I Am Enjoying: Some hot cocoa and a Hallmark Christmas movie (cheesy, I know).

I almost skipped this month's TBR List Poll since it will be such a busy month. I have had too much this year taking part in this meme, however, and so am striking a compromise. All three choices this week are novellas. Perfect for this time of year when busy is as busy gets, with the holidays, work and the end of the year. Thank you for voting!
Curse of the Gargoyles (Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles #2) by Rebecca Chastain ~ I loved the first in this series and am anxious to read this one. I want to be Mika!
Royal Enchantment by Lia Davis ~ I love stories about old houses--and elves! I can't resist a story about a magical world and this sounds so enticing.
White Christmas by Rebecca York ~ I told my husband this one probably has the edge given it's a Christmas themed book. It does sound fun though, doesn't it? Santa's workshop? A plot to ruin Christmas?

What format do you use to set up your giveaways? Rafflecopter, Google, Leave a Comment for an entry, or some other style? It is rare I do giveaways anymore. When I do, I use Google Drive. I find Rafflecopter too confusing and cumbersome (even entering Rafflecopter giveaways confuse me!) and counting comment entries when asking people to leave comments to answer has its challenges. Setting up a giveaway in Google Drive is super easy and organized.
What about you? Do you do giveaways? If so, what format do you prefer to use?

Help me decide what book from my TBR collection I should read next:
My TBR List is a meme hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Sunday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and take a poll as to which you think I should read. I will read the winner that month, and my review will follow. While I will attempt to post my review that same month, I make no promises--it may go up the following month.

Curse of the Gargoyles (Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles #2) by Rebecca Chastain ~ I loved the first in this series and am anxious to read this one. I want to be Mika!
From Goodreads:
Mika was trying to save a gargoyle, not doom the world...
Mika Stillwater isn’t known for her skills with combat magic. As a gargoyle healer, she spends her days mending broken appendages and curing illnesses in the living-quartz bodies of Terra Haven’s gargoyles. But when a squad of the city’s elite Federal Pentagon Defense warriors requests her assistance in freeing a gargoyle ensnared in a vicious invention, Mika jumps into the fray.
No one could have predicted that her involvement would ignite a chain reaction set to destroy the city, the world, and magic itself.
Brimming with epic magic and loveable gargoyles, Curse of the Gargoyles is the second story in the mesmerizing Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles trilogy. Fantasy fans young and old will delight in this highly original world and exciting, action-packed adventure.
Royal Enchantment by Lia Davis ~ I love stories about old houses--and elves! I can't resist a story about a magical world and this sounds so enticing.
Goodreads Summary:
Ava Green has made a name for herself in the real estate world by reconditioning old, historical homes with her partner and friend Jeff. But her newest project, a three-story Victorian in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, promises to be her biggest moneymaker yet. And one she’s undertaking on her own. During her first walk-through of the house, however, she discovers a locked door, and a skeleton key that seems to appear out of nowhere. Unlocking the door, she is transported to a mystical world of fae and mythickal creatures and meets the King of the Morna. The sovereign of the Dark Elves.
King Finn Sylcan has searched for the one who can bring the magick back to his world, Edra, for eons. An old prophecy told of a female of both Dark and Light elven descent, a hybrid both Calim and Morna. It is said she is the only one who can repair the damage the war between the Dark and Light kingdoms caused. But after searching for so long, Finn never dreamed that she’d just show up outside his palace walls. Or that she’d be his mate.
White Christmas by Rebecca York ~ I told my husband this one probably has the edge given it's a Christmas themed book. It does sound fun though, doesn't it? Santa's workshop? A plot to ruin Christmas?
Goodreads Summary:
The snow is coming down so fast, Amelia Parsons doesn't see the speeding car until it's too late. One moment she’s crossing an ice-rutted street in St. Stephens, Maryland. In the next, she's flying into the air, and the world goes black. She wakes, confused, in what appears to be Santa’s workshop during the holiday rush. If that’s not strange enough, a hunky FBI agent named Daniel is there, demanding to know why she’s involved in a plot to ruin Christmas. Can she convince him she's not the villain and then work with him to find the real saboteur?
I hope you all have a great week! Happy Reading!

The Girl From the Savoy looks great! I really love that cover. I am a bit behind on my present buying this year - I really need to buy the last few presents so I can get wrapping!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post
Clare - Doesn't it? I am looking forward to reading it. I love reading about that time period, and agree with you about the cover.
DeleteMy biggest problem with being nearly done with my holiday shopping so early is that I am bound to see something else that I think someone just can't live without. It's bad for my bank account. :-S
Thank you for dropping by, Clare! Have a great week.
Oh those art projects are so cute. I'm sure you'll treasure them - for a while anyway.
ReplyDeleteAs for my favourite book of November I have to admit I really can't think.... I'm struggling with my 'favourite book of the year' post as well!
Deborah - Thank you! I thought the organizers did a great job. We had to bring two home and will probably put them together here. They require a hot glue gun, which the organizers forgot to bring with them. Oh well. More fun at home. :-)
DeleteI haven't yet thought about my favorite book of the year. It's that time though, isn't it? I'm not ready!
Thanks for visiting, Deborah. I hope you have a great week!
The Murder Game looks really good. Awe, so wonderful about Mouse. Loving your haul. Your crafts are great. I will begin my shopping this week.
ReplyDeleteKim - I think so too! I read Catherine McKenzie's Fractured, in which her character Julie Apple stars and The Murder Game is mentioned. It's such a unique concept. Writing a novel based on a novel of her own book . . .
DeleteI wish you luck with your Christmas shopping. Feel better and have a great week!
Ooh The Murder Game looks good. Like that rainy cover. :) And there's something nice and relaxing about Christmas movies... even if they're Hallmark.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a giveaway in ages but when I did I used rafflecopter. It's good to know that Google Drive is easy, if I do any in the future i'll keep that in mind.
Cute tea party BTW. :)
Greg - I really like that cover too! I just watched two of those Christmas movies in a row. My husband was laughing at me because I teared up at the end of the last one. Haha
DeleteMy daughter set up the tea party. She's so funny. :-)
Have a great week and thanks for visiting!
White Christmas, since it's ya know, almost Christmas. ;)
ReplyDeleteShaunesay - I figure that one will probably win given the Christmas theme. Haha
DeleteI read The Girl From the Savoy very recently, and really enjoyed it. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteMaree - I am glad to hear it! It sounds like it will be good. :-) I hope you have a great week too!
DeleteThe Girl from the Savoy has really caught my eye. The cover is stunning but has a real mysterious quality to it. I hope you love it. That photo of the tea party made me giggle as Kitty doesn't appear to be impressed. Gotta love cats.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week.
Here's my Sunday Post
Kimberly - I love the cover too. My cat has impeccable timing when it comes to knowing when I want to take a picture. LOL I hope you have a great week too!
DeleteWow! Lots of good books you got! Glad that your son is doing well in school!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
Ronyell - I'm looking forward to reading them all. :-) I was glad to hear my daughter is doing well. I figured she was, but I still couldn't help but be a little anxious about it.
DeleteI hope you have a great day!
Oooh, The Murder Game sounds very interesting!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really liked the first season of My Little Pony! But for some reason, I wasn't motivated to watch after Season 2...
Eustacia - I think so too! I am looking forward to reading it. :-)
DeleteWe've seen all the seasons on Netflix, including the Girls of Equestria spinoff movies. I much prefer the early seasons of My Little Pony.
There's a show called Mia and Me which I've really gotten into--it's a kid's show about a girl who lost her parents and when she opens a book she inherited, she is transported to a land of elves. It's really cute.
I hope you have a great week!
Thanks for visiting!
Ohh The Murder Game by Julie Apple looks so good and I've been really into Mystery lately so I'll check it out, have a great week!
ReplyDeleteKei - I hope you like it if you give it a try! I've heard it is good. :-) I hope you have a great week too!
DeleteI've voted for you to read White Christmas on account of the fact it is December. Given all you've got to do these days (I didn't pick up a book in earnest for 7 years when my children were small) I'd say 4 books is very respectable. And as an ex-primary teacher I found most of the brighter, sparkier children have a tendency to chat to their friends... Glad Mouse has got the teacher on board, though:).
ReplyDeleteSarah - :-) I figure that would be a strong selling point for that one. Haha Thanks for voting.
DeleteThe teacher told me that she noticed my daughter whispering to another girl in the class and asked her what the secret was. Mouse told there was a monster under the table. Haha.
Honestly, if chatting in class is her only problem at school, I'm very happy with that. :-)
I hope you have a great week! Thanks for visiting, Sarah.
Cute art projects! Glad to hear mouse's teacher conference went well! Thats always a relief. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSamantha - The girls had so much fun. Mouse hung two of the ornaments on the tree this morning. I'm sure she'll be pointing them out to her grandparents when they come for Christmas.
DeleteYes, it was a relief that the conference went well. I'm probably silly for worrying, but this is the first time I've felt in the dark about how she's doing. Kindergarten and public school are so different from her preschool, where I talked to the teachers every day. And Mouse is such a terrible historian in terms of what she's up to in school. LOL
I hope you have a great week too!
We put up the Christmas decorations Friday and I found most of the ones the kids had made from school. I am officially done with everything present related, buying and wrapping. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteShandy Jo - I love going through all the decorations for our tree--seeing ones from my childhood, those from my husband's, and the ones my daughter has made over the years. We have way too many and I wonder how we'll fit them all on every year, but somehow we manage to get them on. :-)
DeleteYay for being done with the holiday gift buying and wrapping! I am waiting to find out who my secret santa is at work, so I can get that gift taken care of. Once that's done--then I'll be officially done. Unless I decide I must get something else for my daughter, which I'm really trying hard not to do. Her extended family spoils her, and so she doesn't really need anything else.
I hope you have a great week!
The Murder Game looks good.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post...thanks.
Wow....I finally found someone else who also dislikes Rafflecopter. I actually dislike it a lot....too many hoops to jump through.
I won't enter a contest that uses Rafflecopter...too stressful. :)
I use Google Forms too.
Hope you are having a good weekend.
Great to see you on the Blog Hop this week.
Happy Hopping!!

My Blog Hop Answer
Elizabeth - I think so too!
DeleteI know Rafflecopter has a strong fan base, but I just can't get behind it. You are right about there being so many hoops to jump through!
I hope you have a great week, Elizabeth. Thanks for stopping by!
It did have the edge because I picked White Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI still have to wrap and do some small stuff for xmas but I plan to do that next weekend.
Have a great week, Wendy! Happy Reading!
Michelle - Haha! I figured it might. I even considered not including it in the poll because I knew it would have the advantage. My husband talked me into it though because otherwise I would have had to pick something that wasn't a novella.
DeleteI worry when I get most all my shopping done this early. I'm likely to spend more money because I'll find something between now and Christmas that I just have to give to someone on my list. I'm terrible that way. LOL
I hope you have a great week too! Thanks for voting!
I voted on your poll. I really want to read the sun is also a star I got it a while ago for review but just didn't pick it up I don't know why! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteMegan @ reading away the days
Megan - Thank you for voting! I hope you do get a chance to read The Sun Is Also a Star. It is amazing. I hope you have a great week too!
DeleteI hope you enjoy The Murder Game as much as I did. I am tempted by The Girl from the Savoy.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Mouse for a good report...and my kids got the "chatty" comment a lot, too.
Enjoy your week, and thanks for sharing. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Laurel-Rain - I hope I do too! Hopefully The Girl from the Savoy will be good. :-)
DeleteI hope you have a great week! Thanks for stopping by.
Sounds like you're been very busy. I hope it slows down soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the teacher conference went good. It's always a good thing when you've got the teacher on board!
I voted for White Christmas since that cover looks great and well I loooove Christmas.
Have a great week and happy reading!
Maureen - I think things will slow down after the holidays some. Hopefully. :-) Thank you for voting in the poll! Have a great week!
DeleteI agree, November seemed long and yet I can't believe it's gone already. I'm still in shock that it's December, the year has flown by. Those crafts look like they were fun and are very adorable. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteKathryn - It was fun putting the crafts together. My daughter and the other girls had a great time of it. :-) I hope you have a great week!
DeleteWonderful post! I love the tea party photo-- been there, done that and your cat seems a willing participant :)
ReplyDeleteSorry about work getting you down-- being forced to read "homework" is a bummer and I can see that dragging your mojo down big-time!
To surprise you, I didn't vote for the Santa book, because you can pick that up on your own later in the month if you're "feeling it". I voted for book one, because well-- gargoyle healer!
Rita - Thank you. We have tea parties a lot in our house. :-)
DeleteThank you for voting! I am really looking forward to reading Curse of the Gargoyles. I loved the first book.
Have a great week, Rita. Thanks for visiting!
The Girl From the Savoy - such a beautiful cover. November seemed a little suspended in time, and then the end of the month just disappeared. I had to vote for White Christmas!
ReplyDeleteCharlie - I think so too! Thank you for voting. Have a great week, Charlie!
DeleteMy reading has been abysmal too and I'm not sure it'll pick up before the year's out. I love all of Mouse's projects!!
ReplyDeleteKathy - I am not sure my reading will either, but one can hope, right? Have a great week, Kathy!
DeleteYay for Mouse making the honor roll! Her Christmas crafts turned out so cute too. I can imagine that your December is going to be super busy especially having a little one and having to get so much stuff ready for the holiday. My reading has been going super slow and hopefully I can turn that around this month. Can't wait to see the results of the book poll! I think it's so cool how you let us help you pick a book :)
ReplyDeleteIliana - We're so proud of her. :-) I was really impressed with the crafts they had for the girls. They all turned out well. I hope you are able to read more this month as well. Thank you for voting and have a great week, Iliana.
DeleteHurrah for Mouse! Love that she's even got the cat in on the tea party!
ReplyDeleteLisa - She loves her tea parties. :-) Have a great week, Lisa! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI tell myself to quit buying books and then buy them anyway. All of the deals this time of years makes it hard to stop. I had to pick the Christmas book. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteCarole - I'm the same way. I have way too many books, and the good deals this time of year just make it harder to resist. I hope you have a great week, Carole! Thanks for voting.
DeleteIt is hard to avoid adding to the TBR pile. I bought a couple of e-books when Amazon had their Cyber Monday sale and got some more from the library. I did read that Jill Shalvis book and I liked it. The Girl From the Savoy looks good and the new Lisa See book sounds interesting too.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Mouse for making the honor roll! Also I think watching Hallmark Christmas movies with a mug of cocoa sounds perfect about now. I love watching all the cheesy Hallmark movies. I have to wait till they are on DVD since I don't have cable. So far I have watched one and have several more on hold at the library :)
Christina - Yes, it is hard! So many tempting books . . . I am glad to hear you liked the Jill Shalvis book! I have enjoyed other books I've read by her.
DeleteThank you! We haven't told Mouse she made honor roll yet (not that she would know what that means). My fingers are crossed my boss will let me be late the morning of the award ceremony. She'll be so surprised when she's called up to the stage. :-)
I watched even more of those Hallmark movies yesterday. :-)
I hope you have a great week! Thank you for stopping by.
LOL! Ahh My Little Pony over and over. I was obsessed when I was little. You daughter has good taste. :D I'm sad and happy about leaving November too. I can't believe it's the en of the year already. Anyway, happy reading and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteChristy - I was older when My Little Pony first came out so missed the boat on it. I'm definitely making up for it now thanks to my daughter. LOL I hope you have a great week too!
DeleteMouse's projects are adorable!! I voted for White Christmas because well Christmas!!! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGrace - Thank you! We had a lot of fun putting them together. :-) Thank you for voting in my December poll. I had a feeling the Christmas one would do quite well this month. Haha
DeleteI hope you have a great week too.
The first thing I want to comment on is your TBR poll. I picked "White Christmas", because the book is a Christmas romance, and the plot sounds so intriguing! Hope that one wins!!
ReplyDeleteAs for giveaways, yeah, I hear you on Rafflecopter. What I don't like is when I see the widget OVERLOADED with entry options. Just a few will do it, IMHO. For me, configuring it is pretty easy by now, and I find it so convenient, too. Sure beats pulling names out of hats, lol. However, I am currently investigating other options. We'll see!
I have more to comment on, but am running late. I'm getting ready to leave for my night job. Will return later!! HUGS!!!! <3 <3 :) :)
Maria - White Christmas seemed to be the most popular chose for that very reason. :-)
DeleteThat's one of the reasons I find Rafflecopter so overwhelming--all the entry options. One entry is about all I can handle! More than that and I tend to want to run in the other direction. LOL
I hope you had a good night at work!
Love those art projects! My grandson has just started bring them home from daycare/preschool at age 2 1/2. I made a board with clothes pins all over and will clip the art to it for display. November went by so quickly for me.
ReplyDeleteNise' - Aren't they neat? We still haven't made the two we brought home. Maybe that would make a great Christmas Eve project . . . I have nearly all of Mouse's school projects from daycare/preschool. I can't bear to part with them. I love your idea for displaying them!
DeleteI think for this time of year four is doing good. :) My favorite read for November was Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones. :) Hope you manage to get in a few books in December. I voted for White Christmas as it seemed fitting for this time of year. :)
ReplyDeleteStormi - You make a good point. Especially given how busy we all are this time of year. I need to give Darynda Jones a try. I think I'd really like her books. Thank you for voting and have a great weekend!
DeleteI really don't mind entering giveaways with rafflecopter but I never try to use it for my own giveaways. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog hop.
ReplyDeleteKatiria - It has to be a book or prize I really want if I'm going to jump through all the hoops to enter a Rafflecopter giveaway. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteWell, it took me longer than I had expected, but I'm back! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI am SO jealous of you for being able to read FOUR books in one month!! And then you add that you "only managed" to read four! I can read three in one month, if I REALLY push it! That's it for me. It sucks being a slow reader....
I feel bad for you, having to read a boring business book....Have I told you about my experience with "Who Moved My Cheese?" No? Well, I'll send you an email about it. I HATE that book! But I do want to read the parody, "Who Stole My Cheese?!" LOOOOOOOL!!!!
"My Kind of Wonderful" and "The Girl From the Savoy" look GREAT!! I'll be adding them to my own TBR!! Speaking of "ye olde" TBR, I LOVE your choices for this month!! I picked the Christmas book because I love to read such books at this time of year, but I like the other two, as well!! I'm adding all three to my GR shelves! Hee, hee!! I know.....I should not be buying any more books, at least, not printed ones, as my shelves are full to the max, and I also have books in storage from our move nearly two years ago.... And I CAN'T part with them!!!
And now.....CONGRATS to Mouse for making the honor roll!!!! WOOT, WOOT!!!! I wish I could high-five her.... <3 :) And oh, I LOVE her Christmas craft projects! SO cute!!! And then, to top it all off, she danced and serenaded you guys as you put up the Christmas decorations. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: you guys are really BLESSED to have her!! :)
Thanks for sharing all your wonderful events, whether bookish or from real life, Wendy!! And thanks as well for stopping by and commenting on my BBH post!! Hope you're having a better week this week!! <3 <3 :) :)
Maria - Always a treat to hear from you. :-) I never had to read Who Moved My Cheese, fortunately. I think the concepts in the book I was reading for work were sound and worthwhile, but much of it seems like common sense--and already the way I work. Still, not the most interesting book in the world--and definitely not my preference of reading material. LOL
DeleteI haven't started any of my Christmas themed books yet. Hopefully soon. (I hope I'm not saying that come January--but you never know at the rate I'm reading.)
Thank you from Mouse. We're very proud of her. :-)
I hope you are having a great weekend, Maria.
Yay for Mouse on the honor roll!
ReplyDeleteI'm slow in my reading lately as I just came back from my short vacation but I did read a few pages during the trip. I'm now slowly catching up on reading/commenting on blogs and I hope you've a great weekend, Wendy. :)
Melody - We're so proud of her. :-) Her award ceremony is on Monday, and will be such a surprise. We haven't told her yet.
DeleteI hope you had a nice vacation! I am glad you were able to get some reading done. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Melody!
I voted for Curse of the Gargoyles as it sounds like book 1 was really good and that makes e think book 2 will be one you will enjoy as well. And it sounds like a good series.
ReplyDeleteDid you enjoy the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum? I read it earlier this year and enjoyed it, I got book 2 for review as well, but haven't read it yet.
Lola - I am sure I will fit in Curse of the Gargoyles whether it wins or not. ;-) I'm excited to read it finally! Thank you for voting!
DeleteI loved The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum. You got book 2?! Lucky! I hope that one is just as good.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
