Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies at Broke and Bookish.
This week's Top Ten Tuesday is Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR. It is hard to think past Christmas right now, and so it's tempting to list all the Christmas books I would like to get to but likely won't because I'm not that fast of a reader--nor can I devote all my time to reading. Winter is much longer than just December though. In fact, it starts just after the mid-point. And as you know, I am terrible about sticking to lists when it comes to my reading, so this is more of a list of possibilities.
1.
Vanished by Karen E. Olson ~ This winter I hope to catch up with Karen E. Olson's Black Hat series featuring hacker Nicole Jones. I have enjoyed everything Karen E. Olson has written, and this is series is my favorite of hers yet.
2.
Wicked City by Beatriz Williams ~ Set in New York City, this novel is described on Goodreads as being a "deliciously spicy adventure that mixes past and present" featuring the present day Ella who leaves her cheating husband and moves into a small apartment, which from the building's basement can be heard sounds of jazz music and clinking glasses--once a speakeasy in the 1920's. Ella sets out to find out more about the history of the speakeasy, uncovering the story of Geneva "Gin" Kelly as well as her entanglement with a Prohibition agent and a wealthy debonair.
3.
Death Below the Stairs by Jennifer Ashley ~ In this historical mystery, "Victorian class lines are crossed when cook Kat Holloway is drawn into a murder that reaches all the way to the throne [excerpt from Goodreads]." I have been wanting to read this one since I first heard about it!
4.
Bridget Jones Diary by Helen Fielding ~ If you aren't familiar with at least the name, Bridget Jones, you are probably living in a cave with no access to books, movies, or television. I had hoped to read this one before the end of the year (and still might, but it's doubtful). I hope to at least read it this winter.
5.
The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore ~ Recently having seen the latest Wonder Woman movie and listened to Leigh Bardugo's Wonder Woman: Warbringer, I figure it is about time I dust off my copy of The Secret History of Wonder Woman and give it a read. As Goodreads says:, this is "cultural history of Wonder Woman traces the character's creation and enduring popularity, drawing on interviews and archival research to reveal the pivotal role of feminism in shaping her seven-decade story."
6.
Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert ~ A portal fantasy of sorts--magic and a fairy tale feel--a 17 year old must go to the forbidden Hazel Wood and the world her now deceased grandmother had created in her stories in an effort to save her mother. Doesn't this sound like the perfect winter book to lose oneself in?
7.
Exit West by Mohsin Hamid ~ A novel about two lovers, a young unmarried Muslim couple, forced to flee their homeland as it is being torn apart by civil war. This was one of My Lit Box books I purchased earlier this year and has been on my mind to read now for some time.
8.
The Hating Game by by Sally Thorne ~ I admit this one, about two publishing company employees who don't just dislike each other but hate each other and who are up for the same promotion, didn't interest me initially. The reviews by fellow book bloggers won me over, however, and I recently added it to my audio library. I hope to listen to The Hating Game this winter.
9.
The Lost Plot by Genevieve Cogman ~ The 4th book in the Invisible Library series which I have so much love for. This one takes us back in time to the 1930's. I can't wait to see what trouble Irene and Kai get into next!
10.
Mrs. Claus: Not the Fairy Tale They Say edited by Rhonda Parrish ~ Because I have to list at least one Christmas-themed book, and I am eager to dive into this one! Mrs. Claus is a short story collection featuring Mrs. Claus in some decidedly nontraditional roles.
What books are you looking forward to reading this winter (or summer for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere)?1.

DeleteI can't remember if I've said this before, but The Hazel Wood looks really good! I just watched Justice League and Wonder Woman was an amazing character so the Secret History of Wonder Woman appeals to me too!
ReplyDeleteHope you get to read them soon!
Eustacia - I think Hazel Wood looks good too! I can't wait to read it. I am glad to hear you liked Wonder Woman in Justice League. I probably won't get to see the movie for awhile, but hopefully someday. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI love Jennifer Ashley - I seriously need to read a lot more of her books. That's the only book I'm familiar with, but now I need to go look up a couple.... happy reading!
ReplyDeleteBerls - This will be my first by Ashley. I'm excited to give her a try. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI actually read an ARC copy of Mrs. Claus earlier this autumn! It was a fantastic collection. I can't recommend it highly enough.
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!
Astilbe - I am so glad to hear you enjoyed Mrs. Claus! I can't wait to dive in. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI actually hated "Bridget Jones` Diary". I love the movie, but the writing style was not for me.

Georgiana - I am sorry to hear you didn't like Bridget Jones' Diary. I didn't want to read it for the longest time, but a friend has twisted my arm and now it's on my TBR pile. I hope I will enjoy it. I do like the movie, although it's been awhile since I last saw it. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI've only read Bridget Jones's Diary and I loved it. I think you will too.
ReplyDeleteKathy - I'm glad to hear it! I hope I will love it too. :-) Thanks for visiting, Kathy!

DeleteOh some of these are also on my TBR list! I hope you get to read Bridget Jones. Such a fun book and I also highly recommend the movie. You can't go wrong with Colin Firth in a film! :)
ReplyDeleteIliana - I keep hearing how good Bridget Jones' Diary is, so I hope to read it soon. I've seen the movie a couple times--although it's been awhile. It is a good one! Thanks for stopping by, Iliana!
DeleteI really enjoyed The Hating Game and hope you do as well. I am looking forward reading The Lost Plot soon. Enjoy all of these!
ReplyDeleteCarole - I hope I will. I think I finally decided to read it because of you. :-) Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI love Bridget Jones :)
ReplyDeleteEllen - I can't wait to read it! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI was definitely surprised by The Hating Game and had a lot of reservations about it before I picked it up. But it was super entertaining so I hope you enjoy it! Ugh, don't you just want to swoon all over the place because of how gorgeous the cover art is for The Hazel Wood?
ReplyDeleteJessica - I am glad to hear it! I hope I end up really liking it too. Yes! The Hazel Wood cover is gorgeous. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThe Wicked City cover is so fascinating! I would pick it up based on cover love alone and would love it. I hope you do! Mrs. Claus looks interesting! I definitely only had December in mind when I made my list.
ReplyDeleteCharlie - Isn't it? I am drawn to it too. I hope it is good! It's hard to look past Christmas right now. I have quite a stack I hope to get through, but I'm not sure I'll manage it. I will have fun trying though. :-) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI would never have picked up The Hating Game on my own but I, too, was swayed by all the positive blogger reviews. I was really hoping to love it as much as everyone else, but I found it to be just ok. I thought it was cute enough but nothing special. I don't read much romance-y stuff, but I much preferred Sophie Kinsella's new book, My Not So Perfect Life, to The Hating Game.
ReplyDeleteLindsay - I'm sorry you didn't like it more. I will have to give My Not So Perfect Life a try after I try The Hating Game. I've enjoyed other books by Kinsella. Thanks for stopping by, Lindsay!
DeleteThat's some selection you have. Of all of your picks it is The Hazel Wood that really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteTracy - It sounds like it will be good, doesn't it? I hope it lives up to my expectations.
DeleteLooks like a great list of books. And Mrs. Claus would be a great book to read for the 12 Books of Christmas challenge that I'm hosting.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. - Katie
Katie - I am looking forward to reading them all. :-) Thanks for visiting. I hope you are having a great week too!
DeleteThese all sound great! I liked The Wicked City. I don't think it was my favorite of hers but it was a good read and I'm so excited about Death Below Stairs. It looks like an entertaining series.
ReplyDeleteKatherine - I am glad to hear you liked The Wicked City. I am eager to read it. It'll be my first by Beatriz Williams--maybe that's a good think since it wasn't your favorite. I'll enjoy her other books even more. :-) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThese all sound good! Exit West is on my list too.
ReplyDeleteSteph - I hope I can get to Exit West soon. I am kicking myself for not reading it sooner. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWendy, out of all these books, the one that appeals to me the most (because I love fantasy :D ) is THE HAZEL WOOD. I hope you get to read and enjoy ALL of them!
ReplyDeleteDonna Marie - I'm looking forward to reading them. :-) Thanks for visiting!
