I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted by the wonderful Kim of Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where participants recap our week, talk about what we are reading, share any new books that have come our way, and whatever else we want to talk about.
Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are mothers or in mother-like-roles, whether you have human or furkids (or both). I hope you are celebrating the day in style, whether it be something extravagant or a quiet day at home reading. My husband and daughter took me out for breakfast Saturday morning (to avoid the Sunday crowds).
My daughter calls days like today "in-climate weather days." Cloudy and gloomy. A little rain. We have set aside the sandals we wore earlier in the week, and have put our socks back on for the time being.
Gracie hasn't quite taken to the new kitten, but that was expected. The new kitten's name is Nina, courtesy of Mouse. She went back and forth between that and Fuzzy. My husband is relieved Nina won out. We have had her home for a week now, and she's made herself quite at home. She's a climber and a bit of a daredevil. We have been showering Gracie with extra love and attention to reassure her she's still queen of the house.
What I Am Reading: I am in the middle of Aimee Molloy's The Perfect Mother, a thriller about a missing infant and the mothers in a mommy group, all with their own secrets and drama. It's good so far!
What I Am Watching: I started watching Iron Fist the other day. It's one of the Marvel series on Netflix. I am actually quite enjoying it, despite the negative reviews I had come across when it first came out.

What I Am Worried About: I was able to get one car problem taken care of only to discover more work needs to be done. Fitting everything in I need and want to do. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed these days.
What I Am Looking Forward To: A Dairy Queen Blizzard. I have been craving one all week.
What I Am Grateful For: My cuddly cat and playful kitten. My daughter's zest for life and never-ending curiosity.

Thank you for helping me decide what book from my TBR collection I should read next:
My TBR List is a meme hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Saturday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and take a poll as to which you think I should read. I will read the winner that month, and my review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).
Many thanks to everyone who voted in this month's poll! I am very excited to get started on this month's winner, Victoria Gilbert's A Murder for the Books.
Thank you for voting! I hope you all have a wonderful April and Happy Reading!

Happy Mothers Day!! Hope you have a fantastic weekend. Glad Nina's doing well, that's a cute name BTW. Hopefully her and Grace will be fast friends at some point.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying Iron Fist! I wasn't crazy about the way they adapted the character (he was a favorite comic character of mine) but it does have its moments. I do like Colleen Wing! And I heard they just wrapped on Iron Fist S2, so we'll get more soon.
A Murder for the Books looks fun. :)
Greg - Thank you! My daughter and husband made it a nice weekend for me. :-) Things are still a bit tense between the cats, but I think we're making progress.
DeleteFrom what my husband tells me, most of the Iron Fist complaints come from those who read the comics. Books are always better. :-) I didn't have anything to base my experience on though, so only have the show to go on. I started Defenders--but have only seen the first episode so far.
Happy Mother's Day! Hope you had a great day(:
ReplyDeleteAnd Nina is adorable!
Eustacia - Thank you! It was a good day. :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to you, Wendy! Glad you got a nice breakfast out. Your new kitten, Nina, is precious. Love her little orange nose! Enjoy the new pick - A Murder For the Books and I'll watch for your thoughts on it. It's on my list too.
ReplyDeleteKay - Thank you! Nina is a lot of fun, but she really needs to learn not to bite. Ouch!
DeleteYour kittykins is adorable :) we had Mother's Day last week, actually - over here it's always the first Sunday of May. Wonder how that happened that it is different for us :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Evelina - Thank you! Mother's Day should be every day! Okay, so that might be a bit much. LOL
DeleteHappy Mother’s Day to you as well! Hope Gracie takes to the new kitten soon. She’s adorable. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
ReplyDeleteJenea - Thank you! Same to you! Nina brings a new energy into the home, that's for sure. :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to you as well. Nina looks so precious. Hopefully Gracie will warm up to her soon. Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne - Thank you! I hope you had a wonderful day as well. Hopefully Gracie will warm up to Nina--I think we're making progress, but it is slow going.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day, and I love the name Nina, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Perfect Mother is a book I've been eagerly anticipating...it is on my Kindle waiting.
I am loving The Garden of Small Beginnings.
Have a great day and a great week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
Laurel-Rain - Thank you! I hope you had a nice Mother's Day too. The Perfect Mother was good. I am enjoying A Murder For the Books now.
DeleteOh Nina is too cute!!! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteSamantha - Isn't she? Thank you. We just love her.
DeleteHAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, WENDY!!!! This is your day to be the QUEEN of the house, and I KNOW you're being treated like one!! :) :) :) Hope your mom is doing better, too!! <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteYou new kitten is SOOO cute!! I like the name "Nina", but "Fuzzy" would have been SUPER cute! Lol.
I've been busy, and am WAY behind on replies and comments..... :( Trying to catch up!! I know I haven't been by in a while, but I just HAD to visit and wish you a Happy Mother's Day!!
I'll be back later!! HUGS TO YOU AND MOUSE!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
Maria - Thank you! I am not sure about being Queen for the day. Haha. We had a nice day though. Nina is such a playful kitty. I don't think my husband would have ever agreed to Fuzzy as a name. Nina suits her well though, I think.
DeleteI am way behind on comments too--and in keeping up with my blog. There just isn't enough time in the day.
Happy Mother's Day! I'm sorry to hear about the compounding car repairs—dealing with car trouble is always at least a little stressful, no matter how small the problem is. I hope you get things sorted out soon, and get to enjoy a DQ Blizzard as a just reward :) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJJ - Thank you! I'll be glad when all the car troubles are taken care of. Money is tight, so we're trying to do it in bits and pieces and hope the car survives in the meantime. I did get my DQ Blizzard. I can't resist those. :-)
DeleteYour new kitty is so cute. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteEllen - Thank you!
DeleteOh, the markings on the new kitten are adorable - and she looks a daredevil, too:)). I hope the weather improves - who wants to wear socks in the summer? Have a great week, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteSarah - I can't wait to see how her colors grow in as she gets older. She's got such pretty coloring. And, yes, definitely a daredevil. Haha! Thanks for visiting, Sarah.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day! Awwww Kitten! I love the name and that cute little face! Our kittens are very daredevilish also.
ReplyDeleteWe have not so good weather today and I am hoping Monday will be better.
I hope you enjoy A Murder for the Books.
Have a great week, Wendy! Happy Reading! :)
Michelle - Thank you! I'm used to having calm cats. LOL Nina's a lot of fun. :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's day! I bet you had a wonderful time Saturday celebrating your day. My mom hates to go out when there are crowds so we typically celebrate special days at different times. Nina is a ferocious little one. Love those pics! Have a wonderful week ahead!
ReplyDeleteIliana - Thank you! I really hate the holiday crowds, so I am all for going out on other days. :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's Day, Wendy! Your new kitten looks a whole lot like a cat we had back in the day. Nina is a perfect name! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteCarole - Thank you! Happy Mother's Day to you as well.
DeleteOh Nina is adorable!! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteMichelle - Thank you! Nina is precious. She knows how to liven up a room. :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's Day! The Perfect Mother sounds fascinating. I love mystery / thriller books. I have yet to watch Iron Fist and one of my friends doesn't like it, at all. I'm still watching Daredevil which is at the beginning of the Marvel path. I read more than watching tv. But when I was in NYC last spring, we did see Luke Cage filming across the street, which was exciting! Anne - Books of My Heart
ReplyDeleteAnne - Thank you! Same to you. Mysteries are among my favorite types of reads. :-) I read more than I watch television too, but I like to have the tv on in the background when I'm blogging or taking care of other stuff sometimes. I need to get back into audio books . . .
DeleteI wouldn't say the Marvel shows are my favorite, but they're fun in their own way. I am not too familiar with the comics, and so don't have that background with them to base the shows on. Although, I did read the first volume of Jessica Jones years ago.
Happy Mother's Day. Nina is so cute and what a great name. I am on the fence about The Perfect Mother, the subject matter is tricky for me. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteNise' - Thank you! I hope you had a Happy Mother's Day too. I could tell you how The Perfect Mother ends (but not the whodunit) so you know if you want to chance it. I get nervous about books like that too.
DeleteAwww....your new kitten looks so cute!!! Happy Mother's Day to you too!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays and Cover Spotlight!
Ronyell - Thank you! Same to you! She's adorable, isn't she?
DeleteHappy belated mother's day! Nina is so cute, and I love the name! I hope you enjoy the TBR win. I do love a good cozy mystery. I'm curious about The Perfect Mother so that's great you're enjoying so far.

Lauren - Thank you! Nina has turned out to be a fitting name. I like to think she even associates it with herself, although that's probably just wishful thinking as it's still early yet. :-)
DeleteI'm sorry you've been overwhelmed lately. I HATE that feeling but know, that it's usually short-lived and will be behind you soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely Mother's Day. We drove to Ojai to visit my fave bookstore but they didn't have what I was looking for. What did you guys do?
Ti - Thank you. Yes, that feeling seems to come and go. I am looking forward to its going, hopefully soon!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a nice Mother's Day. I'm sorry the bookstore didn't have what you wanted. We ended up going to see a movie. We had a nice time. :-)
Oh, Nina is adorable! Hope you had a great Mother's Day, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteJenclair - Thank you! I hope you had a good Mother's Day as well!
DeleteGlad you had a nice Mother's Day! Awww Nina is so cute! Hopefully Gracie will grow to at least tolerate her. :)
ReplyDeleteChristy - Thank you! We are just loving Nina. Now just to get Gracie more on board. There are hints that she is tolerating the kitten more, but it's slow going.
DeleteCute new kitten!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHappy Mother's Day, Wendy! And Nina is adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteMelody - Thank you! Happy Mother's Day to you as well. :-)
DeleteI hope you love the Victoria Gilbert. I found it to be a fun read but you know I can never resist a cozy that's got a bit of history to it. Nina is sooo cute! I don't think there's anything cuter than a kitten. I think the right name won out here. I don't think she would have been all that pleased with Fuzzy when she had gotten a little older. Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteNicola - Thank you! I am really enjoying the book so far. I love the historical aspect too. Kittens are so cute, aren't they? Nina is wild! Mouse is really loving having a small kitten in the home. We have to remind her to be careful though. They both play a bit rough. LOL
DeleteAw your new kitty is adorable! I wouldn't worry about the others not having settled yet. My older cat was the same when we brought back our new kitten a couple of months ago. They co-exist fairly happily now although I doubt they'll ever be BFFs.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Nicola - Thank you! I am glad to hear your cats are getting along now. I will settle for co-existing peacefully at this point. LOL
DeleteHappy belated Mother's Day! And the kitten is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteI am not ashamed to say I went to Dairy Queen twice this past week...lol. I was craving strawberry sundaes.
Enjoy your week xo
Naida - Thank you! Same to you. :-) I ended up going to Dairy Queen twice this past week as well. LOL Sometimes we can't help ourselves--or should I say deserve it.
DeleteI hope you had a perfect Mother's Day! I won't go out on Mother's Day either. Ha ha. The kitten is adorable. 🌞
ReplyDeleteLa La - Thank you! I hope you did as well. :-)
DeleteWhat a beautiful new addition to your family :) She's so little (but not for long!)
ReplyDeleteBark's Book Nonsense - She's a very welcome addition. :-)
