Brr. It is cold outside. There was actually snow on the hill near where I work. The one with the big "M" on it. This area usually does not see snow that low. One weather report said it might actually snow in town. We have certainly had a lot of rain, and now with the freezing temperatures, who knows? It would be a rare treat for Mouse! She's always wishing we could visit the snow.
As for books . . .
Mouse and I make regular visits to the library and one of our most recent library reads together was Judy Moody and the Right Royal Tea Party (#14) by Megan McDonald, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. We took turns reading the book to each other this week after work and school. This is our second Judy Moody book.

A weekly meme where readers share the first sentence of the book they are reading and say what they think. Hosted by the wonderful Gillion Dumas of Rose City Reader.
Judy Moody had been Doctor Judy, M.D. She had been Judy Monarch Moody and Madame M-for-Moody. She had been a Girl Detective and a Mood Martian. She had even gotten a picture of her famous elbow in the newspaper.
But, she, Judy Moody, had never been a queen.
My thoughts: I have a feeling that is about to change . . . Judy Moody is a very imaginative girl, which is something my little one can definitely relate to.
A weekly meme in which readers share a random sentence or two from page 56 or 56% of the book they are reading. Hosted by the wonderful Freda of Freda's Voice.
Stink stopped digging. He tossed down his shovel. "I'm tired of digging."
"But you hardly--"I'm going over to Webster's for a thumb-wrestling match."
"Fine," said Judy. "But don't think when you come home all sweaty you're going to swim in my moat!" [pg 56]
My thoughts: Every queen needs a castle with a moat. This is a fun book.
Does this sound like something you would read?

What's your favourite bookish accessory that's NOT a book? (submitted by Angelica @ Paperback Princess)
This is a tough one. Choosing my e-reader probably doesn't count--but technically, it isn't a book--it just holds a lot of books inside. I could talk about my book mark collection. Then there's my husband's suggestion, which would be my "worm" light (a little reading light that hooks to any book I might be reading at night in the dark). He also brought up my cloth book cover with handles that is handy for carrying my physical books around. There's the necklace my husband gave me with a Pride and Prejudice quote on it (“You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”). Oh, and I love my tote with my favorite Jane Eyre quote on it (“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will.”). There's my Agatha Christie earrings, which are too heavy for my ears, but I love them anyway. But what of the many afghans and blankets I have lying around the house for cuddling under when I want to curl up somewhere and read? Do those count as bookish accesories--maybe not, but they sure make reading more comfortable! I am afraid I just can't decide!
What about you?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be sure and tell me what you are reading and are up to!

Wow! So many bookish things! I only thought about my reading list in my planner...
ReplyDeleteLaura - I think a reading list planner is a great pick! It definitely would help keep you organized. Something I need more of in my life. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteAh...Ive heard about the cold wave in the US. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWhich book do you recommend for a baby who is a year old?
Violet - Thank you! In my part of the world, it is rare we get snow, although not entirely unheard of. So when it does happen, everyone is very excited.
DeleteAt one, my daughter's favorite books tended to be ones she could interact with and touch. Her early favorites were Squeak Squeak (written by Gabby Goldsack, illustrated by Marie Allen, concept by Fiona Hayes) and Quack! Quack! My daughter also really liked the flip the flap books at that age, although I had to teach her how to be gentle and not rip the flaps off. Haha. One of her favorites was Olivia the Magnificent by Sheila Higginson.
Thank you for stopping by!
Thank you for the recommendations :)
DeleteThe weather sure has been strange lately. We've had rain all week and they estimate we'll have had 4 to 5 inches when it's all said and done.
ReplyDeleteJudy Moody is so much fun!
Kathy - I hope you are staying dry! We have a reprieve for the rain for the next few days and aren't expecting more until this next weekend. Our temperatures are all over the place.
DeleteI am enjoying the Judy Moody books more than I thought I would. And Mouse just loves them.
Thank you for visiting!
I love the fact that you and Mouse read out loud together. You'll treasure those memories. I told you about my daughter loving being read to - she still loves audiobooks best. And I read Julie Garwood's THE SECRET to her when she was in middle school (minus certain steamy parts!). Anyway, she read that book on her own in college and called me to say - you left out parts, Mom! I laughed and told her that did indeed and now she could read all the spicy parts herself. Ha! Don't think Judy Moody has the 'spicy' parts. LOL
ReplyDeleteBook accessory - all the ones or types you listed seem good to me. Maybe some of my coffee/tea mugs that I've gotten from bookstores or that reference bookish things.
Have a good weekend and enjoy your snow glimpses!
Kay - I am trying to encourage Mouse to read more than I do to her these days (so she can practice), but she much prefers when I read to her. She loves to be read to. That is too funny about your daughter's realization you had left out parts of a book you'd read to her. LOL If my daughter goes back and re-reads some of the Manga collections my husband has been reading with her, he'd probably find the same thing.
DeleteI forgot about my literary-themed mugs! I admit I don't use them often as I don't drink tea or coffee. I generally only break them out during the Christmas holidays when I have hot chocolate more regularly.
I hope you have a great weekend too! Thank you for stopping by!
this looks really cool! My post is here: https://francebooktours.com/2019/02/05/first-chapter-first-paragraph-the-first-noel-at-the-villa-des-violettes/
ReplyDeleteEmma - It was a fun book. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteCute cover and it looks like a fun read.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental Friday Memes
Sherry - My daughter really seems to like Judy Moody. They are fun reads. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI wish my husband would be so attentive to my reading habits)) You are a lucky one)
ReplyDeleteJulie - Thank you! He is pretty supportive of my interest--and appreciates that I am of his as well. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteThe Judy Moody books are lots of fun. My students love them. This week I am spotlighting Connections in Death by J. D. Robb. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteKathy - They are fun. We've been reading a lot of the A to Z mysteries by Ron Roy as well. I have a budding mystery reader on my hands! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteMy favorite book to read aloud to my girls was Eloise. I even read it to my enriched seniors with the same effect. My husband isn't a great reader, but when I sometimes used to travel with him, he enjoyed having me read to him. My favorite book accessory is one of those stands that hold cookbooks--I put it on the table and read while I eat lunch. :)
ReplyDeleteJenclair - Mouse loves it when I read to her. I try to encourage her to read to me a lot because she needs to practice, but if she had her way, I'd do all the reading. I figure us going back and forth is a good compromise.
DeleteI have one of those stands. :-) It doesn't work well with paperbacks though. At least mine doesn't. I often use my lunch bag handle as a way to hold my books open or even to prop up my e-reader when I read during my lunch at work. It seems to work well for that, even if it wasn't designed to be a book holder. Haha
Thank you for visiting!
I have a book accessory which is hard to keep track of but I really like it. It is a weighted thing you can put over the book pages to keep them open allowing reading without hands. My quotes
ReplyDeleteAnne - I need one of those! I often end up using my phone to hold down the pages, but sometimes even my phone isn't heavy enough. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteHoping Mouse gets her wish for snow. Unseasonably warm here at the moment, I shall be happy if it doesn't get any colder whilst not getting too much warmer.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bookish accessory? Hmm! I guess that would have to be my collection of bookmarks.
Tracy - She didn't, unfortunately, although it got closer to us than it usually does. It's warmed up a little today, but will be getting colder again before too long. So maybe she'll get her wish still.
DeleteI really like my book collection as well. :-)
Thank you for visiting, Tracy!
Oh, I bet my daughter will enjoy the Judy Moody books in a few years. My son had one of the books but I'm not sure if he ever actually read it. Thanks for reminding me of that series!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite bookish accessory has to be the sweatshirt my sister-in-law gave me years ago. It's a huge gray hoodie, and on the front, she screenprinted an image of a book, and the sweatshirt says BOOK NERD. I've owned this sweatshirt for...gosh, probably 12 years now, and I still get compliments on it everywhere I go. It's the best!
Stephanie - My daughter seems to have really taken to them. It's good to see her excited about chapter books.
DeleteI love the sound of your sweatshirt! Comfortable, practical, and bookish! My kind of bookish accessory. :-)
Thank you for stopping by!
Sounds like a fun read!! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteFreda - It is fun reading the books with my daughter. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI actually never got into Judy Moody. Looks like a cute read though.
ReplyDeleteAsh @ JennRenee Read
Ash - My daughter is really into them, which is good enough for me. Anything that gets her to want to read! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteWe are state neighbors and we are also have some wintery weather including snow in places where it doesn't usually snow. Hope you have time to hide under those bookish afghans and blankets this weekend (great list of bookish things, by the way.)
ReplyDeleteRoberta - Today wasn't the day for curling up under the blankets to read, but hopefully tomorrow! I hope you are staying warm! Thank you for visiting!
DeleteWow, it sounds like you have lots of lovely bookish items!
ReplyDeleteNicki - Probably too many. :-) Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteThis sounds like such a fun read! We've had some weird weather this week. It was barely above freezing a couple of days ago, but today it's been in the 70's which has been nice. Hope y'all get to enjoy some snow this weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteAshley - My daughter really enjoys it. :-) We are supposed to hit 70 this next week and then it's back to freezing again. The weather can't make up its mind. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteJudy Moody always looked like a delightful series. I hope you have a delightful weekend.
ReplyDeleteAlicia - It's really cute. I hope you are enjoying your weekend too. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteThis book sounds like such fun. You've got snow and we've got 70s and muggy here!
ReplyDeleteMy Friday 56 from Silver River Secrets
Laura - I will be glad when our weather turns warmer again! Thank you for visiting.
DeleteFirst---I adore Peter Reynolds, the illustrator of Judy Moody books :D
ReplyDeleteAnd my bookish accessory? Hands down, no question--bookmarks. I've got a thing for bookmarks! They even became a hobby that I do in spurts with images of favorite pictures, books, subject matter, sometimes with book covers to match books and I always pick one that "goes" with the book I'm reading :D Second in line? My clip-on book light :D And yes, I'm going to say your comfy blankets are an accessory :D :D :D
Donna - Mouse enjoys his artwork. :-)
DeleteI like to do that with my bookmarks sometimes too--match them to the book I am reading. I have quite a collection myself, although I haven't been collecting them like I once did. Those little lights sure come in handy, don't they? I love mine. I often find it missing from my nightstand though--because my husband's taken it to use. It's very popular in our house.
Thank you for stopping by, Donna Marie.
Sounds like a fun book!
ReplyDeleteYvonne - It is! Thank you for visiting!
DeleteThat P&P necklace sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnd the book sounds good - especially because I'm love tea and tea parties! Hope the two of you enjoy the read!
Eustacia - I really like it. :-) Judy's tea party was a lot of fun. I imagine Mouse wishes she could have one just like it. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteYou know...an e-reader does count as an accessory! I didn't think of that.
ReplyDeleteAnd the reading light? I completely forgot about that too!!! Sometimes when I forget to charge my Fire, I read on my Kindle Paperwhite. So, the reading light is essential when reading at night.
Literary Apothecary - I think the e-reader should count too. :-) That little light comes in handy, doesn't it? My husband is always stealing it to use. Haha. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI have nothing but fond memories of Judy Moody books. Long may she reign!
ReplyDeleteCatherine - We checked out two more of her books today from the library. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteOmg yes. Bookish jewelry is the best, your husband sounds so sweet. If e-readers count I definitely agree. I love my e-reader so much. Great picks!! <3 :) Have a fantastic weekend.
ReplyDeleteHeather - He is sweet. :-) Thank you. I hope you are having a fantastic weekend too. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteWe've got snow but it's melting a bit now- the temps have gotten a little better. At least we're not getting NEW snow lol! I hope you do get some though for Mouse- I could probably send some that way haha. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have some great bookish accessories!
Greg - The snow close to us didn't last long either--although it's sticking to the mountains on the horizon, which is good. Mouse was sad she didn't get to play in any snow. I really should take her to the mountains so she can, but her dad and I aren't exactly snow fans--and we don't have the clothes for it. One of these years we need to though for our daughter's sake. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteJudy Moody! I am pretty sure that my girls read some of those books. I don't know if I have any book accessories that I use. I have some book marks but I always just use a scrap of paper or concert ticket. If we can count kindle that that would have to be it.
ReplyDeleteCarole - She's very popular with my daughter. :-) I tend to use what is most handy when it comes to bookmarks too, which often means a receipt. Haha. Maybe that should have been on my list of favorite bookish accessories. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI hope Mouse enjoys the snow if it arrives. Enjoy the Judy Moody books, too cute!
ReplyDeleteI love my Nook e-reader too. Your Pride and Prejudice quote necklace sounds lovely. I don't think I have many non-book bookish things, I feel like I need a book quote t-shirt or a mug or something lol.
Happy week!
Naida - We didn't end up with snow, much to her disappointment. Plenty of ice though. I've seen a number of bookish quote t's I wouldn't mind having. :-) I hope you have a great week too! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteWonderful bookish items!! My first thought was my ereader as well :)
ReplyDeleteMy BBH
Erica - Thank you! I love my e-reader. I've really come to rely on it! Thank you for visiting.
DeleteI don't know if I'd be able to pick a favorite bookish accessory either. I have mugs, bookmarks, and bookish pins that I love, but one doesn't stand out over the others as a favorite.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne - It's hard settling on just one . . . I forgot about my mugs and pins. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteJudy Moody is always a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteLauren @ Always Me
Lauren - She is! Thank you for visiting!
DeleteThe Judy Moody books sound delightful, and what fun to be reading them with your daughter! I miss those days...
ReplyDeleteI'd have a hard time picking a favorite bookish accessory, too. I have some bookmarks I love (and some that are merely useful.) I have bookish mugs and comfy non-bookish afghans and my dragon shelf-sitter. But I think two of my favorites are my Hedwig tote and my bookwyrm tote, and also my headlamp for reading at night in the dark. (Well, technically, it's for backpackers and campers, but because the light level is adjustable, it's ideal for reading a physical book in the dark, without waking my husband up.)
Lark - They are fun books. Today we were reading about Frida Kahlo, preparing for a report she has to write. A dragon shelf-sitter?! I want one of those! Your Hedwig and bookwyrm totes also sound really cool. I would buy all the bookish totes if I could afford them . . . Thank you for stopping by, Lark!
DeleteYou know, I'd love some cold weather here, lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing list of bookish accessories you've got, Wendy. I don't have that many but I do love my bookmarks and my e-reader. :)
Melody - I wish I could have shared some of the cold weather with you! Bookmarks are both attractive and practical. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteWow on the snow. We've had flooding issues all last week but thankfully no snow. Even better it's actually sunny today! We have a lot of road damage thanks to all the water but everything is passable now at least. Love the book! I think the Judy Moody books are so cute though the Tornado won't read them. I'd have a hard time picking out my favorite non-book bookish accessory. I think I'd have to go with the bookmark my daughter made me when she was in kindergarten (she's graduating from college this spring) and another one that the Tornado made me that I "laminated" with packing tape!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - It came so close, but none in our neighborhood. Mouse was so disappointed. I am glad you are getting some sun. We are now too, although more rain is expected late next week. I think the Judy Moody books are cute too. :-) I love your favorite accessory. The bookmark your daughter made you is a true treasure. And the one Tornado made you. Thanks for stopping by!
