My TBR List is a meme hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Sunday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and take a poll as to which you think I should read. I will read the winner that month, and my review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).
Sorcerer to the Crown and The Last Namsara could not hold a candle to Shadow of the Fox, which was this month's clear winner.
One thousand years ago, the great Kami Dragon was summoned to grant a single terrible wish—and the land of Iwagoto was plunged into an age of darkness and chaos.
Now, for whoever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers, a new wish will be granted. A new age is about to dawn.
Raised by monks in the isolated Silent Winds temple, Yumeko has trained all her life to hide her yokai nature. Half kitsune, half human, her skill with illusion is matched only by her penchant for mischief. Until the day her home is burned to the ground, her adoptive family is brutally slain and she is forced to flee for her life with the temple’s greatest treasure—one part of the ancient scroll.
There are many who would claim the dragon’s wish for their own. Kage Tatsumi, a mysterious samurai of the Shadow Clan, is one such hunter, under orders to retrieve the scroll…at any cost. Fate brings Kage and Yumeko together. With a promise to lead him to the scroll, an uneasy alliance is formed, offering Yumeko her best hope for survival. But he seeks what she has hidden away, and her deception could ultimately tear them both apart.
With an army of demons at her heels and the unlikeliest of allies at her side, Yumeko’s secrets are more than a matter of life or death. They are the key to the fate of the world itself. [Goodreads Summary]

My 5 year-old granddaughter and grandson are wild for Pokéman! I had to look it up on wikipedia to see what it was all about.
ReplyDeleteNan - I know the feeling! My daughter has a book full of the different types of Pokéman. She knows about them much more than I do! I feel so lost when she and my husband start talking about them. Haha
DeleteLooks like you had an awesome weekend. What did you think of Endgame? I need to see the Pokemon movie. Maybe tomorrow I'll go check it out. Also, I enjoyed the Spiderverse movie a lot more than I thought I would.
ReplyDeleteElle @ Keep on Reading
Elle - I liked Endgame. I knew a little of what to expect at the end, not being able to completely avoid the spoilers, but I enjoyed it just the same. I hope you enjoy the Pokéman movie!
DeleteWhat did you think of Endgame? And Pikachu is so fun. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh Shadow of the Fox won handily! It does look good!
Greg - I liked Endgame. It was quite emotional. I knew going in about the ending, but not about the other twist that took place earlier. That was a hard blow.
DeleteI am curious about Endgame now. I hope that you will enjoy all of your books and the week ahead.
ReplyDeleteCynthia - Thank you!
DeleteWe still haven't watched Endgame! Gah. So little time to do things these days.
ReplyDeleteEvelina - I hope you've been able to see Endgame. I know you wanted to. I was hoping we could fit in Aladdin this weekend, but no one wants to move today. Haha. Maybe for my husband's birthday next weekend . . .
DeleteI saw Detective Pikachu this week too! I loved how they rendered the different Pokemon. I've watched so much of the TV show with my son (and played Pokemon Go so much) that I was naming them too, lol.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely Mother's Day!
Nicci - They did a great job with the different Pokéman, didn't they?
DeleteOooh, what did you think of Endgame?
ReplyDeleteDetective Pikachu looks really interesting - hopefully I remember to see it while it's in cinemas!
Eustacia - We enjoyed Endgame! Have you see it? I hope you get to see Detective Pikachu! It's really cute.
DeleteI'm glad Shadow of the Fox won I've heard amazing things about it. I also need to pick this one up! Have a great week!!
ReplyDelete~ Kendra @ Kendra Loves Books
Kendra - It was really good! Hopefully I will get my review written soon.
DeleteThis month is always a great month for movie debuts. I saw that the Pikachu movie was coming out with the Avengers when we went to the movies this week....I wonder which one did better at the box office.
ReplyDeleteThe Shadow of the Fox looks like it is going to be brilliant. I hope you enjoy it a lot.
Have a great reading week, and Happy Mother's Day!
Deb - Yes, May is a good month for movies. I used to go to the movies more often than I do now, so it's a big deal when we can see two in the theater in one month. Even one is something. Haha.
DeleteI hope you had a nice Mother's Day too!
Shadow of the Fox is a freebie audio download at AudiobooksSYNC this week, you might like to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week.
Shelleyrae - Thanks for the head's up. I actually had an e-book copy already. I don't listen to audiobooks very often. Maybe six times a year, if that. I much prefer to read books in print.
DeleteI was going to say it by ShelleyRae did. Shadow of the Fox is a free audio through Wednesday. I got it and want to listen to it. I voted for Sorcerer of the Crown because I loved it. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Anne - I really enjoyed Shadow of the Fox. I still want to read Sorcerer of the Crown though--and am glad to know you loved it!
DeleteIt's so neat that you make a poll to ask what your next read should be. I've never seen it!
ReplyDeleteEsther - It's one of my favorite monthly memes. Michelle of Because Reading Is Better Than Real Life hosts it the first Saturday of every month.
DeleteInto the Spider-Verse surprised both my wife and me too. She's pretty much "over" the superhero movies, but found this one inventive and fun as I did.
ReplyDeleteBryan - I was sure I wouldn't care for Into the Spider-Verse, but like both you and your wife, liked it quite a bit. We've seen it again since the first viewing because my daughter wanted her grandmother to see it too during her visit.
DeleteAwesome! I hope you enjoy Shadow of the Fox! I just finished reading it and it was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays
Ronyell - Thank you! I did like it--and am glad you did too!
DeleteEnjoy your books! I am staying for a few days with my daughter, since I was just released from the hospital...and I'm hoping to move into a senior apartment nearby. I know that I've bad-mouthed my daughter's goal of settling me into one, but after my "Big Awful Event" of 5/8 and the subsequent hospitalization, I am ready. LOL.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week.
Laurel-Rain - Thank you! I hope you are settling into your new place well. I saw the photos on FB, and it looks like it will be a comfortable place to live. :-)
DeleteSounds like a good one!
ReplyDeleteLark - It was!

ReplyDeleteMy grand kids are not into Pokeman yet. They are probably too young.
Nise' - My daughter is obsessed. At least she hasn't discovered Pokemon Go yet.
DeleteSounds like a good win. I hope you enjoy the book. We didn't do much as I don't like to go out on Mother's Day - to crowded. Hope you have a wonderful week. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteMary
Mary - I think so. :-) We didn't go out either. I'd much rather stay in on Mother's Day as well.
DeleteI have no idea of the TV shows but I can see you've enjoyed it all which is the main thing. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteMystica - Thank you!
DeleteThat's the one I voted for :D I hope you enjoy it, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteDonna Marie - You chose well. :-) It was good.

ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
AJ - It was! Thank you. I hope you have a great week too.
DeleteI'm looking forward to seeing what you think of this month's book. I know nothing about the book but the author has been on my list for awhile. I have a feeling Detective Pikachu is in my future pretty soon. Glad to hear Mouse liked it! I hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - Kagawa is an author I have been wanting to try for quite a while now too. I hope you got a chance to see Detective Pikachu and enjoyed it!
DeleteWe loved Spider-Man into the Spider-verse. I wasn't expecting to like it so much. I hope you had an amazing Mother's Day. My sister made us dinner and some brownies. It was very laid back.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had an awesome week.
Tina @ As Told By Tina
