Weekly Mews from Mouse's Corner: Unicorn Food

I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted by Kim of Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where participants recap our week, talk about what we are reading, share any new books that have come our way, and whatever else we want to talk about. I am also linking The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb Nance of Readerbuzz where participants discuss what they are reading and other bookish topics.

My daughter loves everything unicorn related. She was very excited when she unwrapped this particular gift on Christmas morning: Unicorn Food: Rainbow Treats and Colorful Creations to Enjoy and Admire by Cayla Gallagher.

Mouse loves to bake and went through the book as soon as she could, bookmarking all the pages of recipes she would like to try. Which, let's be honest, was pretty much all of them. Over the holiday break, she and her grandmother tried a couple of the recipes out. While they did not turn out exactly as originally designed, my mom and Mouse added their own personal touches. I did not get photos of the Gummy Bear Ice Pops--which in Mouse's version included lifesaver gummies. But I did get a photo of their Lollipop Cookie Pops, which they renamed Rainbow Cookie Pops for obvious reasons. They turned out to be very yummy!

Lollipop Cookie Pops aka Rainbow Cookie Pops

Lollipop Cookie Pops (book version)

Mouse and I have been through the book a couple of times and she is looking forward to making many other unicorn treats. Here is a small sampling of some of the other goodies in the book (including the Gummy Bear Ice Pops). So many of them look fun and promise to be tasty!

Do you have a favorite unique cookbook?

  3. I am crazy for baking. I just learned to make puff pastry (all day to make 9 little Danish pastries) and I hope to learn to make choux pastry soon. I'm always on the lookout for novel baking books and this one certainly looks like one of those. My little granddaughter also adores baking and just happens to have a fondness for unicorns, so this book might be a good fit for her, too.

Pippi has been one of my favorite people-in-books, right from the start. Hope you are loving Pippi, too.

    Have a great week!

    1. Deb - I wish I was kitchen-inclined, but somehow the gene passed me by. My husband enjoys baking with my daughter, at least, so she doesn't have to miss out. Your granddaughter would probably enjoy this cookbook if she likes unicorns. There are some somewhat healthy treats mixed in with the not-so-healthy ones. :-)

We love Pippi. My daughter and I read another Pippi book last year and really enjoyed it.

I hope you have a great week too! Thank you for visiting!

  6. Pippi Longstocking: I believe I read them or at least the first one anyway and enjoyed them when I was a child. I know there are still popular at our library, even though we have to get them out of our basement (old building, not handicap-accessible).

  19. Wendy, I totally love this! My granddaughter and daughter-in-law are both unicorn lovers so I'm forwarding this link to her :D

I hope all is well with you :) I've been missing keeping up on things here because I love your posts SO much, and just today had to finally make what I consider a big decision, and it saddens me. My life has been overwhelming for years, but recent times have become more critical (in every way, especially health and cell tower damage) so is on extreme overload. My inbox is continuously overwhelming so, at least for the time being, regardless of how much I want to subscribe, my health and life are forcing me to cut back on literally all the sites I follow :( I'm hoping I can get things under control and see an improvement, especially in brain function, so I can get back into the things I enjoy, like your blog. Stay well and I'll miss you! oxox
