This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is a freebie! I could not come up with anything of my own so asked my daughter to share her favorite books so far this year. Here are Mouse's top five books of 2022:
The Apothecary Diaries, Vol. 6 by Nekokurage, Natsu Hyuuga, Itsuki Nanao, Touco Shino
Keeper of the Lost Cities (#1) by Shannon Messenger
The Forbidden Library by Django Wexler, illustrated by Alexander Jansson
A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1) by V.E. Schwab
The Golden Door (Three Doors #1) by Emily Rodda
As a bonus (and to round out the list to 10), I asked Mouse if she had any reading tips she would like to share. Here are her five tips:
- Don't dogear the pages.
- Don't listen to music while reading because it can be distracting, especially if someone is singing out loud next to you (Mouse swears she doesn't mean me, but, let's be honest, she probably means me).
- Try to read the book before you watch the movie to avoid spoilers.
- Be careful reading around cats. They climb all over you and the book, and they hit you in the face with their tails repeatedly so you can't concentrate on actually reading.
- Try not to read when you should be doing your homework or you will forget to do it.

Aw this is cool! I LOVE the look of the Forbidden Library!
ReplyDeleteGreg - There's a lot of "Mom, it is my book. I get to read it first" in our house. :-) Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI often include info on my blog from family members. I love this. How old is your daughter?
ReplyDeleteMy Freebie TTT post
Anne - She's 11. As she's gotten older, I've cut back on how much of hers I share, but occasionally she gives me permission. :-) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteAww that's a lovely topic! And I'm so going to steal some ideas for my daughter! Great tips too!

ReplyDeleteDeb - I would like to if she cooperates. ;-) Thank you for visiting.
DeleteGreat tips by Mouse! Keeper of the Lost Cities is on my TBR list so it's good to hear that others liked it; it makes me more confident to pick it up!
ReplyDeleteEustacia - I'm going to have to read the series now too! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI love her tips for reading. My daughter could use a reminder of the last one.

ReplyDeleteMelody - I break that one now and then, especially with poetry books--she just shakes her head at me and lets out an exasperated, "MOM!" Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteInteresting looking books and great tips.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.

Jo - Thank you! I look forward to reading A Darker Shade of Magic soon. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI love the reading tips! That's some solid advice right there. A Darker Shade of Magic is one of my favorite series.
ReplyDeleteAJ - I can't wait to start it! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteThe fact that Mouse loves to read is so great. Sharing that hobby (passion?) with one's child is such fun. And her reading tips are spot on!
ReplyDeleteHelen - I am glad she's loving reading right now. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteMouse is full of great bookish wisdom! I also don't like reading with music on. It does distract me, although I can tune out tv really well, which is kind of weird. #5 makes me laugh. I definitely had that problem all the time when I was a student (even in college)!
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Friday)!
I do okay reading with music without words, but if I am familiar with the songs, I sometimes will sing along--which is distracting. LOL Yes, I think many of us can relate to her #5. And it doesn't even have to be homework! Insert work or chores or what have in there and it fits. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteAwesome list by Mouse. I loved Keeper of the Lost Cities this year as well.
ReplyDeleteAnnemieke - I really must give it a try for myself. My daughter told me the other night she thinks the series might too dramatic for me. My husband burst out laughing and asked my daughter if she knew what types of books I read. Haha. Thank you for visiting!
