The foot would not fit in my briefcase, so I wrapped it in cloth and wrestled it into an old knapsack I sometimes carry with me on expeditions. [opening of Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands]Already off to a curious start! It isn't everyone who would carry a foot in their bag.
As if it wished to lure me on, the fog parted on the easy path, revealing the mountainous landscape beyond. Most travellers would have surged ahead immediately in order to orient themselves, but I did not trust the behaviour of the fog. I surmised that the path ahead was a faerie door, and what sort of place did it lead to? The mountains I saw through the break in the fog were familiar, and yet something was off about them. [excerpt from 56% of Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands]I have a bad feeling about the situation Emily finds herself in here. Where faeries are concerned, one never knows what will happen next. I have not reached this point in the book, but I look forward to finding out more.
When mysterious faeries from other realms appear at her university, curmudgeonly professor Emily Wilde must uncover their secrets before it’s too late in this heartwarming, enchanting second installment of the Emily Wilde series.Does this sound like something you would enjoy? If you have read it, what did you think?
Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore—she just wrote the world’s first comprehensive of encylopaedia of faeries. She’s learned many of the secrets of the Hidden Folk on her adventures . . . and also from her fellow scholar and former rival, Wendell Bambleby.
Because Bambleby is more than infuriatingly charming. He’s an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother, and in search of a door back to his realm. So despite Emily’s feelings for Bambleby, she’s not ready to accept his proposal of marriage. Loving one of the Fair Folk comes with secrets and danger.
And she also has a new project to focus a map of the realms of faerie. While she is preparing her research, Bambleby lands her in trouble yet again, when assassins sent by Bambleby’s mother invade Cambridge. Now Bambleby and Emily are on another adventure, this time to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where Emily believes they may find the door to Bambley’s realm, and the key to freeing him from his family’s dark plans.
But with new relationships for the prickly Emily to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every forest and hollow, Emily must unravel the mysterious workings of faerie doors, and of her own heart. [Goodreads Summary]
What is your favorite type of candy?
I have a shameless sweet tooth. I am your stereotypical woman who loves chocolate. My top favorites today (because it changes from time to time) are See's Scotchmallows (dark chocolate covering marshmallows and caramel), Riesens (chocolate-caramel candy covered in dark chocolate), and Dove's dark chocolate squares. Yum!
Do you have a favorite type of candy?

I like order and, with so many books around the house, I need organized shelves if I want to find a book with relative ease. The shelves in my personal library are divided mostly by genre: fantasy, mystery/suspense/thrillers, fiction (historical, contemporary, romance, literary), poetry, and nonfiction. I also have a bookcase (and giant basket) devoted to Mouse's books in that room (not divided by genre). Within those sections, the books are alphabetized by authors' last names. I keep all the mass market paperbacks on a couple of bookcases in the spare bedroom, which are also alphabetized by authors' last names. In other parts of the house there are bookcases for my family's graphic novel and manga collection. I also have a TBR shelf by my bedside with a mix of books on it. We won't talk about the books in Mouse's room, spilling from the shelves onto the floor, in no particular order. Although, I think she tries to keep the series together.
My many e-books are not organized at all. I am afraid I haven't taken the time to figure out how to do that. I really should though just so I can more easily see what I have lost between its covers.
How do you organize your bookshelves?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be sure and tell me what you are reading!

I’m not enamoured by faeries, but you had me with the foot in the bag.
ReplyDeleteMystica - It does have a bit of mystery to it with that opening. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteWell that Beginning definitely got my attention! I've had a friend recommend this series to me and I like the sound of the quotes you shared, so I may just have to dip into it soon. And I am mildly ashamed to say I have no system whatsoever for organising my books. I know exactly where each of them is, but that's just cause I'm comfortable in my own chaos xD
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely weekend :)
Juli @ A Universe in Words
Juli - I was surprised by how much I liked the first book. I am looking forward to getting into this one more. I hope you do give it a try! As long as your system for books works for you, that's all that matters. :-) I hope you have a great weekend too. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteTempting! Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: BOOKISH FRIDAY
ReplyDeleteLaurel-Rain. I am loving it so far. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteBoth of your quotes are quite compelling. What kind of foot? And such a sinister fog.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Knowing Emily, she'll have a use for it. :-) Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI thought Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands was better than the first one. I am excited for the next one 🤣
ReplyDeleteI have shelves all over the house with a random mix of books. I have series together but that is it 😶
Have a great weekend!

Emily - I am so glad you thought so! I am so excited to be reading it and already looking forward to the third when it comes out. :-) I hope you have a great weekend too. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI really want to read this book and the first book in the series. I'm on the waitlist for the audio and I can't wait. Love the teasers. My absolute favorite candy is caramel Cadbury eggs so I always stock up this time of year! I organize my bookshelves by genre too. I've tried a few different things but I can't get my head around any other way.
ReplyDeleteKatherine - I hope you enjoy the books when you get to them! I really like the caramel Cadbury eggs too, although I think the chocolate creme ones are my favorite I couldn't find any last year at the stores. I was so disappointed. It was my husband's idea to separate by genres, and I'm so used to it now that I can't imagine doing it differently either. Although sometimes I do wonder what to do with the cross-genre books. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteThis books sounds good. The beginning really has my interest.
ReplyDeleteYvonne - I am enjoying it so far! Thank you for visiting!
DeleteLove the way you described your orgnaizing.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - Thank you!
DeleteMountains, fog, and a faerie door. Sounds like a promising fantasy novel. Harvee @https://bookdilettante.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHarvee - I am loving it so far. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteOh. I remember reading reviews of the first Emily Wilde book and I added it to my TBR. I need to follow up on that one.
ReplyDeleteYea for See's I wish I lived closer. Maybe I'll have to do a custom order!
Jen - I hope you do give the series a try. I am really enjoying it so far. I can't wait for the third book to come out. I hope you are able to make a custom order from See's so you can get a See's fix. :-) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteThat cover is absolutely stunning. Wow!!
ReplyDeleteSarah - I really like it too. :-) Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI love chocolate, too. See's dark chocolate-covered caramels and Lindor dark chocolate truffles are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteYour bookshelves sound very organized. I have one large bookcase with nonfiction on the first shelf (need more room, actually) and the rest is fiction, all alphabetized by author with no genre breakouts. I have a couple of bookcases with my TBR stacks and those aren't organized in an fashion.
Les - Yes! I really like See's dark chocolate-covered caramels too. And Lindor makes good chocolate truffles!
DeleteMy husband insisted on the genre break ups years ago and I went with it. :-) Thank you for visiting!
Ok. You're a dark chocolate and caramel lover. Welcome to my world. Have you tried the Trader Joe's caramels? Soooo yummy!
ReplyDeleteHelen - Yes, I am definitely a dark chocolate and caramel lover. :-) I haven't tried Trader Joe's caramels. I will have to though! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI'm hoping to start this series soon. It sounds so good! Plus, I keep hearing how awesome it is. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteAshley - I love it and hope you will too! Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI love chocolate, too...and Sees truffles are my favs. I like to get a box with all the different flavors for my birthday. And their scotchmallows are very yummy. When I can't get those, I like Lindor truffles and dark Dove chocolate. :D Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteLark - Getting a box for your birthday is a great idea! Lindor truffles are good too. :-) Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI am pretty organized on my books on the bookshelves. I try to keep series and books by the same author together. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteJamie - I like to keep series together too. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI have seen this and the first of the series floating around the internet. The covers are really pretty but I was on the fence about the actual book. Might check it out since you enjoyed the first so much.
ReplyDeleteHena - It's such a fun series. I am enjoying it. I hope you like it if you do give it a try. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteMy fiction books are in alphabetical order on my bookshelves. My nonfiction are not. On one shelf I have favorites, and the other shelves are just mixed, LOL! I never organized all my ebooks either. I tried to get them all on Goodreads, but haven't managed that either.
ReplyDeleteCindy - Those e-books just don't make it easy to organize them. LOL Thank you for visiting!
DeleteMy books are in excellent order, too. You and I like order!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands.
Deb - Yes, we both definitely like order! I hope you enjoy Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands when you read it. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteCandy, you say. If it is chocolate I like Reisens and Skor candies. Otherwise I like spice drops and jujubes. My shelves are organized by author, except for my cozies which are on their own shelves, and they're organized by series and author I guess. I am not a huge fan of fairies, so haven't read either of the books in that series, but I know they have received lots of love. I'm glad you enjoyed them, Wendy.
ReplyDeleteCarla - Riesen's are so good, aren't they? I like that you have separate shelves for your cozies. :-) Thank you for visiting!
